It's literally the ultimate description of how Russia enables itself by enforcing Western sentiments of false defeatism, omission, and strife, as well as idiotic and irrelevant narratives such as 'Peace = Surrender' and 'Resistance to Russian aggression = Escalation' or 'Russian is entitled to anything it wants' and 'Ukraine is not worthy of Western support'. The brilliant work essentially brings an ultimate summary of what we're trying to say all this time. I really hope Western leaders see this, too -- especially when it comes to the United States these days. And the Oscar goes to.... Yes, the most horrifying and the most important documentary of our time. @mstyslavchernov created one of the greatest journalistic pieces of all time to show Russia's extermination of Mariupol during the 2022 full-scale invasion at the risk of his own life. I must say I am surprised the academy made this decision nowadays when so many dishonorable and loud voices overtly make it somehow hip to spit upon Ukraine and buffoon over its fight for survival against one of the most brutal war machines of all time. Yet, it seems like the will of good people to do what's right was a bit underestimated. So, as a Mariupol guy, please watch the best documentary at the Oscars. Look what they've done to our beautiful city by the sea and how they turned it into a mass grave in the rubble. That footage will ruin a lot of illusions about what today's Russia is and about what it does in Ukraine.

We could have been discussing the aggressor's defeat and the restoration of just and stable peace in Europe right now. Or at least we could have been much, much closer to that right now. No more excuses for doing nothing, procrastination, pretending to play 5D chess, 'escalation management', imagining that the biggest European war since WWII would just go away if one just closes their eyes and lets the victim bleed out and shut up. Ukraine has demonstrated it hundreds of times that providing it with aid works and helps. It keeps stunning even now when Western assistance is dwindling. Listening to irresponsible demagogues and propagandists does not help. They will not be there with us all to face the consequences when it's too late to prevent Russia's imperialist triumph in Eastern Europe. Doing what is right and moral in repelling and curtailing Moscow's aggression is the only way.

We don't lack capacity, we lack the political will and urgency necessary to support Ukraine and maintain our collective security. Russia, on the other hand, has the will to destroy Ukraine and reestablish the Russian Empire. When will we start using our capacity to deter this? 🧵
