Most SaaS founders obsess over MRR growth. They track new MRR to the decimal. They celebrate every $1k added. They build dashboards, run weekly reviews, and set team targets around acquisition. But almost none of them track how much MRR they're silently losing every single month, revenue that existed, then quietly stopped existing, with no alert, no notification, and no obvious place to see it in their metrics. Here's what that silent loss looks like in practice: A payment fails. The customer doesn't know. You don't know. The processor retries once or twice on its default schedule. Still fails. A generic "we had trouble processing your payment" email goes out, if you have one at all. No response. Subscription gets cancelled or suspended. Customer notices weeks later when they can't log in. By then, they've already started evaluating alternatives. That's involuntary churn. And it's happening at 5-8% of your transactions every single month. Add voluntary churn on top, customers who decided to leave, clicked cancel, and were met with a single "are you sure?" confirmation button with no offer, no pause option, no attempt to understand why and you have two separate leaks draining your MRR simultaneously. Failed payments + quiet cancellations = your real growth ceiling. You can hire more salespeople. You can increase ad spend. You can launch a referral program. But if you're not fixing the leaks first, you're pouring water into a bucket with holes in the bottom. The math is brutal when you write it out: - $100k MRR - 6% hit payment failures monthly → $6,000 in failed payments - 40% recovery rate (generous) → $3,600 recovered - $2,400 gone. Every month. Without a single customer complaining. - Annual leakage: $28,800 That's before you account for voluntary churn. Most founders will spend $28,800 on a single sales hire before they spend one hour auditing their payment recovery rate. Run your own numbers → recurflux.com/resources/fail…

We finally have an onboarding email sequence for SiteGPT.ai... 3 years after launch 😅 This should ideally improve our trial -> paid conversion rate... Right now, it's at 25%. Want to get it to 50%.

Fair point, Retain does dunning. We go deeper, 30+ failure codes each get a different retry strategy (a soft decline ≠ an expired   card ≠ insufficient funds). We also catch expiring cards before the charge fails, and offer subscription pauses instead of cancellation flows, that alone flips win-back from ~10% to 40-60%. Retain doesn't do either.

Two types of churn. Both are killing your MRR. And they need completely different fixes. **Voluntary churn** = a customer makes a conscious decision to cancel. They're not happy. They feel the product isn't worth the price, doesn't solve their problem, or they found something better. By the time they hit the cancel button, they've already mentally moved on. The damage happened 2-4 weeks before the click. The fix: intervention before the button. Behavioral signals (dropping logins, narrowing feature usage, support tickets about pricing). A cancellation flow that captures the reason, maps it to the right save offer, and gives them an exit that isn't permanent (pause, downgrade, credit). **Involuntary churn** = a customer had no intention of leaving. Their card failed. Maybe it expired. Maybe the bank flagged an unusual charge. Maybe they hit their limit on a rough month. They still want your product. They'd be confused if you told them they'd "cancelled." But if you don't recover that payment fast, with the right timing, the right channel, and a frictionless update path, they're gone anyway. The fix: intelligent retry logic (timed to failure reason, not a generic 3-day interval), multi-channel dunning (email + in-app banner + SMS), and a card update experience that loads in under 2 seconds and doesn't require a login. Most tools fix one. Most founders ignore the other. And almost no payment processor handles either one well, because that's not their job. @Gova_j0ta Free tiers can drive signups, but churn is what quietly kills MRR. Recurflux helps recover failed payments and reduce involuntary churn so revenue doesn’t leak while you’re growing. recurflux.com

A competitor just launched a free tier. 200 cancellations in one day. My MRR dropped from $18K to $11K in a single week. I found out from my own customers telling me they were switching. #saas

day 26 building in public mrr dropped to $300 but revenue hit $458 in last 28 days this is what no one tells you: subscriptions ≠ cash flow one-time purchases quietly carry you 17 active subs 3.5k+ new users almost 4k active users yet still feels like “not enough” realization: growth isn’t linear it’s messy, confusing, and slightly painful also seeing a pattern: weekly plans → faster conversions but also faster churn still testing. still learning. goal: $500 mrr + 100 subs closer than it looks.
