Miners working in Northern Canada in 2018 discovered a small, tannish-brown lump that appeared to be made of fossilized fur... Now, after studying the mysterious blob, paleontologists say it’s a perfectly preserved Arctic ground squirrel that lived roughly 30,000 years ago during the Ice Age. The creature, which was curled up into a tight ball, likely died while hibernating. At first, the furry, fossilized lump didn’t resemble much of anything. But upon closer inspection, researchers spotted the squirrel’s little feet and claws, as well as its ears and tail. After spending several millennia in the permafrost, the squirrel’s remains were too fragile to try to unfurl. So, researchers enlisted the help of a veterinary practice with an X-ray machine. Before scanning the animal, they worried the images wouldn’t be clear; perhaps the bones’ calcium had deteriorated over such a long period of time. But their X-rays revealed a remarkably intact skeleton. Paleontologists suspect the squirrel was young, but their analyses didn’t explain how it died. Arctic ground squirrels survived after the Ice Age and still inhabit Yukon and Alaska today. That makes them especially intriguing to scientists, who wonder if these little mammals may be able to withstand future changes to the climate, too. #archaeohistories

@Tesla_AI 1. There is no technology that has changed my life more than FSD and I love you for it. Thank you! 2. FSD 14 needs to get better. It has put me in a couple of dangerous situations and seems like a big step back. I need to tell you because I love you too much.

Restaurant spend crossed $1 trillion / year, eclipsing grocery. It shows no sign of stopping. Fintech x Restaurants is a huge area of opportunity. The category has already delivered some of the biggest winners in fintech like - Square / Block ($50B mkt cap) - Toast ($14B mkt cap) And there are 100+ other companies across the sub categories (thanks to @FT Partners for market map -- link in comments) - POS - Online Ordering - Data Management - Reservations & More It's a hard category. Because the market is fragmented and competitive, if you look at the market map and you'll see that many of the players on it have been strategic acquisitions. One example is Clover. Despite today being one of the larger POS providers, They were acq by Fiserve in 2011 for just $56M. But if you manage to break thru and become a platform, it can drive some big outcomes.

@dickiebush This is literally the reason I started @Ovationup ! Frictionless for the guest to GIVE feedback, easy for management to respond to the feedback, and improving online reviews. The magic isn’t just getting data though, it is taking brand-wide ACTION on the trends.

Last night, I ate dinner at a world-class Michelin star restaurant in Medellin. But the most surprising part had nothing to do with the food. Instead, it was the small action they took after dessert. Here's what happened (& how I will apply the simple idea to my business) Shortly after I inhaled the delicious 7th course of starfruit sorbet, the waiter came over to ask me about my experience. We raved about each item, how pleasant the staff was, and how cozy the backroom environment felt. It was a glowing testimonial, one I’m sure he’s heard many times. But rather than let that review float into the ether, he politely pulled out a wooden slab with a QR code, asking if I could take a minute to share my review on Google. Now, I have eaten at a ton of great restaurants over the last few years. But I have never, once, left a Google Review. Why not? 2 big reasons: 1. They don’t ask! Or, they ask too late, when dozens of other life events have gotten in the way. 2. There is always friction! I have to find the website, or the review page, or jump through some long-winded log-in page. But this restaurant handled both of these, which made it an absolute breeze to fill out a review: 1. They asked at the perfect time, right after the most enjoyable part of the meal. I was riding a nice sugar high after the perfectly sweet dessert, feeling excellent about my dining experience. This made me far more likely to leave a review since I was in the middle of the best part. 2. They removed all of the friction for me. The QR code popped straight to the pre-filled review page, meaning it took me less than 30 seconds to fill out. And since I basically just “wrote” the review aloud, I just repeated what I said into the text boxes. And it’s clear this process is working—because they have one of the cleanest Google Review pages I’ve ever seen. So, how am I going to apply this idea to my business? Simple: I will use their exact framework to gather testimonials for our products. 1. I will ask for a testimonial in the lowest friction way possible, taking as much of the effort off the user as possible. 2. I will ask immediately after a moment of peak delight, when the customer is feeling the best about the product and most likely to pay forward that goodwill. Nothing better than finding small business lessons during everyday life moments. Thanks for reading—best of luck putting this into practice for your business ✊ For more frameworks and stories like this, follow me @dickiebush And be sure to like & bookmark this so you can find it later.

@WIRED Honestly—this is disgraceful. I’ve loved and read @WIRED for a long time. Shocked this made it through the editorial process. Lost a lot of respect with this one. If you can’t find a story in such a fascinating situation, you aren’t skilled or aren’t trying.

@zoates @Delta But like did you not see everyone standing up to board? I feel like everyone is always congregated by the gate around boarding time. Maybe I’m missing something here but I do know there are strict rules and once the door is closed it’s closed. Either way sorry that happened!
