How does this statement make the stable of big shot filmmakers who have taken a bite from Netflix’s poisoned apple feel?
Reel Updates@worldofreel

Netflix film chief Dan Lin tells @nytimes that if any director asks Netflix to give their film a theatrical release, they will be shown the door. “There is a group of filmmakers who still want theatrical. Those are filmmakers that we’ve accepted we just won’t work with.” tinyurl.com/y6nuftck

@AVARY Since Lin serves in the Board of The Good Shepherd Center for Homeless Women and Children (Not Men also?) he must have voted for Spencer Pratt who, promised to end it -not extend it like the current mayor!!!! Thanks, Dan

@AVARY And people wanted them to own WB.. Those supporters said Paramount would be a "monopoly" and kill theaters, but they promised a certain amount to be shown in theaters. Netflix said they were going to, but it would have probably been limited. They won't put their own in theaters.

@AVARY Why would Netflix leave money on the table? Get all the theatrical money, then exclusive viewing for subscribers after.

@AVARY Wait, when Netflix was going to buy WB, did they not say, "they'd still release some movies theatrically." This statement says that was a lie.

@AVARY Netflix brilliantly disrupted and destroyed Hollywood's vulnerable and failing business models (Blockbuster, cable) and then decided to dumb itself down and adopt the worst parts of them.

@AVARY I hope quality directors avoid Netflix like the plague. Even their camera restrictions are ridiculous.

@AVARY Yeah but they’ll put movies in their own theaters to get Oscar nominations. Fuck that POS.

@AVARY Giant corporate conglomerates ruin art. It’s the reason art is becoming meaningless in mass society

@AVARY I don’t understand how Netflix still has the power to make these calls. Of all the streaming platforms Netflix is barely above Hulu and they are twice the 💰 They used to have big budget quality. Now their content is mostly badly dubbed low budget foreign films that feel like tv.

@AVARY So … Christopher Nolan calls up Ted and says that he'd finally like to make a Netflix movie … but … asks for a theatrical release … are Ted and Dan REALLY going to show him the door? Really?

@AVARY I think Netflix is akin to FedEx, Amazon- a network of independent contractors/vendors, associated via a natural hierarchy (I guess we get SWAG t-shirts, but not a branded appearance, like Red Bull)

@AVARY Well, considering that nearly all of those projects ended up being big bombs or otherwise performing badly at the box office (THE IRISHMAN, MANK, BARDO, ROMA, REBEL MOON) maybe the should feel a little responsible...

@AVARY Most of these Netflix movies wouldn't even do well at the box office either. They would maybe pull some money in via a star but they ain't generally good movies.

@AVARY People if you want to boycott netflix for making a lot of content disrespectful to the studio that made @AVARY's Pulp Fiction go watch Scary Movie 6 from the same studio as Pulp Fiction which is against netflix making content against the studio.
