In all seriousness, are there any jobs left where you just build the software in peace?

@CFDevelop That was my life when I was contracting for an agency and it was pretty great. “Hey Luke here’s a greenfield app we need built with all the specs let me know when it’s done.”

@CFDevelop on the flip side: settling / deciding the what, the spec, the requirements will trend towards the more important part if you can’t “just code” in peace. Try talking and figure the requirements, then you can code in peace because figuring out requirements is like prompting gpt4

@CFDevelop IMHO, scrum makes one lazy. I used to build a complete project from scratch within a month when I was freelancing almost a decade ago. Including getting and implementing client’s feedback. These days, I just update button colors and change styling. 😀

@CFDevelop Software development for a large companies has become like working on an assembly line in a factory. Churn out lines of code and close those JIRAs as fast you can. Software developers have become a commodity.

@CFDevelop Impossible to keep working this way. You always have a PM, PO, BA whispering in your ear: "It's finished?"

@CFDevelop It's a real problem. Scrum and agile development in general do help with a lot of things compared to waterfall! But nowadays I feel like I'm spending more time in meetings and planning than actual coding. There are also too many people whose only job is organizing meetings. 😬

@CFDevelop I work in a small agency as a solo developer, no scrums or any of that nonsense. I’m left alone and trusted with my job. Never without work and always learning. It doesn’t pay as much as working at a big company but id class it as ‘building in peace’

@CFDevelop Surprisingly, that’s how we tend to work here at @ShopifyEng. Very little senseless process and a lot of agency in small project based teams. At least that’s how it is in our corner of the organization.
