@ChessProblem Its because he is a muslim not because he doesnt respect Vaishali , as muslims we are not allowed to shake women hands and i thin kvaishali knows that
English

@ChessProblem Hey, an arbiter here for an inside scoop. We talked to him before today’s game against Irina (first game against a woman since Vaishali) to give him a warning that his game will be forfeited if he refuses to shake hands again. He stated religious reasons for his decision in ….
English

@ChessProblem Is this a new thing because he did shake hands with Divya in Sharjah last year ig?
English

@ChessProblem I'm surprised this issue is not gaining more attention
English

@ChessProblem I hope you're just trolling. It's clearly for religious reasons.
English

@ChessProblem This was round 4. Vaishali later won. But we have to wait for an explanation before we judge publicly. He had a cold is one. It has to be investigated by the organizers. As we know them it would be is last appearance if it was discriminating. @tatasteelchess

@ChessProblem As far as I remember, FIDE law says if you refuse a handshake your opponent can claim forfeit. It should be implemented. @FIDE_chess

@ChessProblem After jeans gate, it is handshake gate now..bad for chess world..hope some action is taken this time atleast least and not like jeans gate where culprit escaped
English

@ChessProblem What a weird guy. Probably a misogynist hiding under the guise of religion.
English

@ChessProblem That seems strange to me as his sister is also an excellent chess player (WGM).
English

@ChessProblem How is this discrimination? Politely denying a handshake from the opposite gender is apparently discrimination. Ridiculous. What if it was the other way round? A women declines to handshake a man, would you then argue the same point? Probably not...
English

@ChessProblem Apparently not shaking a women's hand is discrimination. How foolish can you be?
English

@ChessProblem It's not because he disrespects women players its for religious reasons that have perhaps changed (for those saying he shook hands with divya last year).
English

@ChessProblem I'm not a religious person and I find it a shame that anyone is, but I honestly think he was just being a weird little guy and his religious ways should be respected [condescending].
