How do you stop yourself from envying other devs success

@CodeRed_dev Just remind yourself that they're making a worse version of Stardew Valley

@CodeRed_dev “Good for them!” is my mantra for that. I accept their accomplishments for what they are and move on with own tasks. Other dev’s lives are their own and theirs alone. They have nothing to do with me or my projects. I am happy for them and support them, but my focus is on me.

@CodeRed_dev Redirect your jealousy towards something worth your time like putting more effort into your craft, and use other people's success as both hope and inspiration.

@CodeRed_dev This is general career advice but we all have our own path to tread and comparison will always lead to misery. Celebrate your own wins and set goals.

@CodeRed_dev It sounds simple but I would say it's natural, you can't stop the feeling. Spending less time on social media and more time on getting the game done works well for me.

@CodeRed_dev To be honest I've never felt jealous about anyone's dev skills, probably cause I see development as a skill that I can learn just as easily as they did. But one place I do struggle is when someone with less skill than me gets more public recognition.

@CodeRed_dev jealousy like that stems from a desire to feel successful. The problem is that you can never know how they feel, maybe they don't see their success the same way that you do, but you can focus that feeling into your own drive to succeed. Try to support others successes as your own

@CodeRed_dev I don't, that's what gives me the motivation to go forward. Actually, I find post mortems very inspiring!

@CodeRed_dev When I see an indie dev breach through into success, I’m reminded that it is possible to make it happen and it makes me feel inspired. I imagine the opposite would actually feel worse - all of us creating, growing and sharing - but no one succeeding in the end..

@CodeRed_dev Because I've yet to see a similar product. It's not really competition if the end products are not comparable. So to each their own succes. Doesn't have to impact ours.

@CodeRed_dev I don't tend to envy gamedevs successes but rather just envy the fact that they had the energy to finish a project.

@CodeRed_dev Honestly think about how the “successful” indie dev you’re hating on (so to speak) is contributing from your market. Indie devs. Or Learn from them. Or do what I do, I just stay focused on my project. I don’t even watch devlogs anymore. Out of sight out of mind

@CodeRed_dev I guess we can't. But we can work harder to be among them.
