@CodeRed_dev Same object 1000 times is faster to render than 1000 different objects. 10 colours x 50 different bricks, then multiply each one by 100? .. it looks a ton, but it's not really "that" much. This is why all these games exist trees look kinda similar in your favourite games.

@CodeRed_dev Not sure I will find this relaxing. Ever stepped on a Lego brick with your bare feet? Now imagine the horror of walking on hundreds of them. Or maybe the player is a ghost?

@CodeRed_dev Simple mats, could do it in a single draw call with vertex painting or per instance custom data, mix that with nanite. Easy.

@CodeRed_dev non dynamic lighting, LODs and billboards would help. most are just coloured shapes so they don't need that much rendering power for them. you can see the slowdown when you have tons of pieces moving close up at 30 seconds in

@CodeRed_dev GPU instancing, if it doesn't move, it's so damn easy to render a lot of fit on the screen. Didn't you notice new grass in games, they render literally millions of blades of grass with some fancy optimization techniques, also documented online btw for free

@CodeRed_dev Instancing. Most of them are duplicates only with different colours. Polycount can easily be solved with LODs and an imposter system

@CodeRed_dev I could speculate by why not ask the man himself, @BryanLivingston. What techniques and engine features did you utilize to render 100,000 bricks on screen at once? Did it take much iteration to achieve, or was it easier then you thought?

@CodeRed_dev because they are static and most likely don't even have collision detection on, the second they all started moving in the trailer is when the game started struggling and lagging.

@CodeRed_dev computers are pretty fast and with a pile of legos thats really noisy you can have a really agressive LOD system because your brain doesnt process the individual bricks it just sees a pile of colors

@CodeRed_dev This is actually common in game dev now. It's not that difficult to do. Unreal engine, godot, unity, all the biggest game engines have pretty streamlined ways of doing it.
