Yes. Fertility is declining because humans don't actually want that many kids. And with the rise of social media, one of the last reasons to have kids -- to create your own little human society so you don't feel lonely in old age -- went away.

@Noahpinion I dunno man. I think this is more of a death by 1000 papercuts situation which makes discourse challenging. If I did try to distill it. I'd argue that we are living in a world of ever increasing abstraction and losing the felt sense of being human.

@Noahpinion Without that felt sense, it no longer feels like life is worth propagating. We've lost the felt sense of life continues through me.

@Noahpinion Put another way... The Ego's core function is individual optimization. Reproduction is a species-level optimization. Our environment no longer right-sizes ego. Century of the self and all that jazz. As a result, we're less likely to perform an act that transcends the self.
