Chief Torry Mack is launching a new traffic safety initiative to target speeding and dangerous moving violations across the city. “Operation Slow and Steady,” will officially begin on Friday, May 15, 2026.

The initiative comes in response to the growing number of traffic accidents. Currently, the City of Decatur has recorded 865 traffic accidents year-to-date, in addition to 239 private property accidents, which equates to 61 accidents a week.
