NEW YORKERS ARE BEING CRUSHED BY THE COST OF LIVING AND POLITICIANS THINK THE PRIORITY IS REGULATING SELF-CHECKOUT LANES IN STORES
New Yorkers are already drowning under some of the highest prices, rents, taxes, insurance costs, labor costs, utility bills, and regulatory burdens in the country and now politicians want to micromanage how grocery stores and retailers operate checkout lanes.
Government should not be dictating transaction limits or staffing formulas for every checkout lane in New York.
Instead of restoring order and prosecuting theft, this proposal effectively forces businesses to hire more labor, reduce efficiency, slow checkout lines, and increase operating costs; costs that will inevitably be passed directly onto consumers through even higher prices.

New Yorkers are tired of paying the price for corporate shortcuts. When stores cut staffing and expand self-checkout without proper oversight, it creates more theft, more stress on workers, and higher prices for consumers already struggling with the cost of living. That’s why I introduced Int 729 to bring real accountability to self-checkout in NYC - with staffing standards and transaction limits that put safety, workers, and customers first.
