Pretty sure Frank knows that, and has clarified that exact thing on more than one occasion. Faith in Christ is what saves and justifies us before God; but saving faith produces good works. If it is dead faith, there will be no change or good works; this is the completion James is talking about.

Just look at the analogy of James, body (faith), spirit (work). A living body (living faith) DOES NOT PRODUCE A SPIRIT (work)
