Ever increasingly we hear from the modern world “Live your truth.” or “Be your authentic self, find your own identity.” while the gospel tells us who our Savior is. It tells us what our identity is in our natural state, but more importantly it tells us what our identity can be in Christ. We cannot save ourselves, we cannot live out unnatural lives contrary to God’s design while demanding justification. Cling to the Cross, seek first the kingdom of God and lean on Him rather than yourself.

Basing your salvation on “obedience to law” leads you to “I'm not sure, but I hope I’ll make it.” While basing your salvation on “Christ has done it all, his promise is sure” leads to “I know I’ll make it!”

@TrueMessiahMin @BrysonGray Hop on & listen? Yes. Bother talking? No. I deal with enough people slamming their opinions at people in monologue form on a daily basis, I don’t need it on my time off.

The greek word in James 2:24 literally means alone dawg. That's why most translations have it that way.
Zach@DocKrease

@BrysonGray So you’re inserting “alone” there, that very thing you like to claim other people do. Amazing how it’s acceptable when you do it, but only when you do it. Wow.

You seem to ignore the balance between the various epistles. • Paul (Romans, Galatians, Ephesians): Justification is by faith, apart from works of the law. • James: Genuine faith is evidenced by works; faith without works evidenced in the life of a believer is a dead faith. • Both are true and complementary. Works do not justify us before God; they demonstrate that our faith is real.

It’s one context and he literally compares it to demons. He used the demons believing as an example on why faith alone is worthless. I mean…it’s literally right there

@BrysonGray So you’re circling that back to say he’s comparing it to demons, when that comparison is made in v. 19, where he talks about assent / belief only, that is a dead faith or strict acknowledgment. Gotcha.

@BrysonGray Do you not realize that he is arguing dead faith as what is the same as demon’s belief? You’re using this to piggyback that you have to work to have salvation, when that’s incorrect.

James literally compares “Faith Alone” to the doctrine of demons. That doesn’t bother you?

I believe the passage you’re claiming to have “alone” in it is Romans 3:28, correct? The text does not have the word “alone” in it, but the doctrine itself is plainly visible, just as is the doctrine of the triune Godhead while the specific word “trinity” is also not in the text. If you’re going to nitpick like that, then you have to be prepared to deal with the other ramifications of it. Luther openly admitted to his using the word “alone”, and why. It doesn’t change the doctrine of grace, regardless if you use “apart”, or “alone”.

@infidel_cracka @BrysonGray Do you have a specific reference for this? Because I’ve read these passages many times and while the text does not say “faith alone”, both Paul and James make plain how man is justified before God.

Pretty sure Frank knows that, and has clarified that exact thing on more than one occasion. Faith in Christ is what saves and justifies us before God; but saving faith produces good works. If it is dead faith, there will be no change or good works; this is the completion James is talking about.

Are you trusting in Him alone for salvation? Or your works? Pretty big distinction there. Let's look at the scripture. James 2:19-24 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. Let's break this down a bit. What is James saying here about belief that there is one God? He says that the demons share this belief, and they tremble. He then clarifies that faith without works is dead; faith with no fruit is a dead faith and has no value. He then goes back to Abraham who's faith was accounted to him for righteousness, and then his faith was made perfect by fruit, by his works. He then concludes with another example in Rahab the harlot, and that faith without works is dead, just as the body without the spirit is dead. Faith alone justifies man before God; it is accounted to him for righteousness, but it must be true, living faith. If a man claims to have faith in Christ but that faith is not working in and through him, changing him to be more like Christ, then it is a dead faith.

@DocKrease 1. I know Christ and he knows me, per scripture. 2. It’s quite literally what James does, verbatim

Tell me you don't know or truly understand scripture, without telling me. Hope of salvation is for those who are living; Muhammad was a false prophet who believed in a false god. Muhammad is also dead, and died without putting his faith in Jesus Christ. Muhammad is in hell, just like everyone else who does not or has not put their faith in Christ Jesus, acknowledging Him as Lord, and trusting in Him alone for salvation.

James doesn't compare faith alone to demons. He compares dead faith, mere intellectual assent, to demons. Demons believe God exists. They don't trust Christ. Paul answers, "How is a sinner justified before God?" James answers, "What does genuine faith look like?" Different questions. Perfect harmony.

1 Corinthians 6:18-20 NLT [18] Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. [19] Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, [20] for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body. bible.com/bible/116/1co.…
