@Goosaphone For all intents and purposes, yeah, Butterfield, Beedrill, and the other early game bugs kinda are the Jagens.

@Goosaphone Seth and Titania are also Jagens, but they never fall off.
English

@Goosaphone Nah Firered turned butterfree from Jagen to Fredrick. Compound eyes sleep powder combo gives it some later game usage.
English

@Goosaphone It learns quiver dance in let's go, turning into the Sett of that game
English

@Goosaphone Compound Eyes + Sleep Powder is a carry and a half
English

@Goosaphone I always thought Nidoking was the Jagen in gen 1 while Caterpie and Weedle are the Cain and Abel
English

@Goosaphone More like a oifey, beedrill may fall off like a jagen, but butterfree can stay fit into endgame since almost accurate sleep powder into dream eater for big psychic damage
English

@Goosaphone earlygame bugs my beloved
(dustox is the best jagen of them all)
English

@Goosaphone If Jagen was a sage with the sleep spell and covered a niche case in endgame...
Sure
English

@Goosaphone She's fast, and hits like a glass cannon when she feels like it. Not to mention she learns Silver Wind which can boost her stats, like bro.

@Goosaphone There's a few key differences, the biggest being the phase where these kinds of bug Pokemon are substantially worse than other options for a bit before they become marginally better than your other options. Butterfree at least always has good utility like many Jagens though.
English

@Goosaphone Real ones know Jagen is an important archetype to help the weaker units catch up and use their better growths early on.
English

@Goosaphone @Elpis0fh0pe Literally followed just for that caption because holy shit you’re right i never realized
English

@Goosaphone is there a unit archetype that’s like incredible.
Like it just works unbelievably well and everyone uses it because it’s so good
English

@Goosaphone The ability butterfree gained in gen 3 is the only reason I ever consider having a bug type in my party for FRLG.
English

@Goosaphone Why is this so true though ... actual Crutch Pokemon ... back when I knew nothing about the older titles as a really dumb kid I was surprised at how good Butterfree was.
English

@Goosaphone Most early gen bugs and single stages apply, tbh.
English

@Goosaphone You’re not wrong, but I wouldn’t have thought of calling Butterfree or any Pokémon a “Jagen” before lol
English

@Goosaphone Butterfree funny enough is surprisingly not bad in Hardcore Ultra Min(someone had a series where they play Red Gen 1 only fighting Gym and League) since Butterfree had more broken mechanic than most(for context the best is Victreebel)
Which make it even more Jeigan kinda
