A young man jumped from Chimney Rock this afternoon and never resurfaced. The search is still underway. Every year people are seriously injured or killed making this 60 foot jump into 150 ft. deep water. If you visit Lake Martin, please don’t jump or allow your friends to jump. It’s far too risky.

Sad.... 🙏for his family... Years ago, I knew a young boy who lived just down the road from us. He had went swimming at a local creek with a few of his friends and family and he jumped off a bridge headfirst onto a submerged stump, broke his neck killing him instantly! 😳 You never know what's right beneath the water!

Yes, ma'am.... even if you can see the river or creek bottom if you're high up, you really don't know how deep the water is, or how far down in the water you'll go. Water is a refraction of light because it can bend light rays....light travels slower through water than air making things look bent beneath the surface.

@KBeckett5698 This area is consistently 150 ft. deep but that’s a problem, too if they go too deep.
