Software is eating the world. And in the process it is ruining sports.

The reason behind Max's crash was a software issue, which caused excessive energy recuperation, locking the rear tires. Wache says its ‘an easy fix’ and there's no major concerns He also says if Max didn't have these issues, the estimation is that he'd be about 3 tenths behind Mercedes (via @shigasportsf1)

@MarcOverIP Internal combustion engines have been software for a long time now, nothing new.... Now, if they have AI's do the ECU algorithm optimalisations, that's when it gets weird 😅

@djrevmoon Ecu sw has never been on the level that is required now. It goed way beyond ignition timing and fuel mixture. With the regen, deployment and everything in between. Waché himself said it was a software issue and simple to fix. So lets see!

@MarcOverIP Of course the 50/50 rule makes that super complex, but I reversed ECU fw more than 10 years ago and it was already quite advanced. That was for a truck tho not a racing car...

@djrevmoon Same here. Going through the details of a 2009 bmw ecu. Its all ‘basic’ stuff. Now in F1 brakes is sw, accel is sw, diff is sw, aero is sw, regen is sw, power deloyment is sw. Max’ crash is not the final one we’re seeing that is down to a sw bug.
