@MinModulation Do you think people can be addicted to gambling or would you call that something else hmmmm
English

@MinModulation It’s like getting into the scrolling loop on your phone, yes it’s not chemically addictive yes dopamine isn’t addictive but it’s still a dependency a lá weed
English

@MinModulation genuine question, based on how you define addiction self harm cant be considered an addiction right
English

@MinModulation It’s not clinically addictive. But you can form habits around things that trigger dopamine release that are very similar to addiction.
English

@MinModulation What do you think causes gambling addictions?
English

@MinModulation dopamine is a catecholamine, a neurotransmitter, it has no addictive properties, your body uses it to activate some neural pathways, is this not something we all study in high school
English

@MinModulation This is the singular most insane take I've heard in a long time
English

@MinModulation Every time I see one of those scam emotional wellness apps that are like "you aren't depressed or have ADHD you just have a Dopamine Addiction" I want to explode them with my Mind
English

@MinModulation lol which this logic drugs like amphetamines aren't addictive since they primarily act on dopamine receptors, but go off lol
English

@MinModulation Same thing with testosterone, it's really misunderstood. Most people see it as the "manly" hormone that causes aggression but it's more accurate to say that it reinforces socially positive behavior. Most men are just taught that all problems are solved with aggression
English

@MinModulation Dopamine addicts here in the replies, coping and seething.
English

@MinModulation Well yes but causing it to surge can be. Which is typically what people mean. Confirming the primary neurotransmitter behind addiction isn’t actually “Addictive” feels a bit like releasing flatulence in a haboob
English

@MinModulation Being a live is so addictive. We need to talk about the being alive addiction.*sarcasm*
English

@MinModulation A lot of people get confused because dopamine feels good, and when someone who's addicted to alcohol for example drinks alcohol they feel good. But the addiction part not only comes from the frequency of partaking in something addictive but the effects of trying to stop it
English

@MinModulation I'm addicted to saying dopamine is addictive. Gives me such a dopamine release, which I what I'm addicted to.
English

@MinModulation Yeah, people really don't really really enjoy doomscrolling or porn or whatever but are so isolated from others or too broke, tired, or depressed to do anything else. Every time dopamine is brought up its in a self-help-esque pseudoscientific way to avoid material analysis
English

@MinModulation A guy on here described it as the "value attributing neurotransmitter" and I think that's why people it mimics addictive properties
English

@MinModulation but how else will i massively oversimplify brain chemistry to make my point
English

@MinModulation I'm addicted to getting addicted
postmodernists love to hate me
English

@MinModulation >compulsively doing a behavior which results in dopamine via the path of least resistance is... le good
Maybe
English

@MinModulation Pop neuroscience has been a disaster for the human race
English

@MinModulation If you've ever had neurons fire in your brain you're a hopeless junkie
English

@MinModulation it’s debate is retarded cuz like yes medically you can that’s why stimulants have a risk of addiction if used by those who don’t have adhd ( that have a lower baseline dopamine)
English

@MinModulation Every single person on earth is addicted to dopamine to varying degrees.
