Hey @WoodyWhite5, it's been tough to get anyone on the record about DEI, good or bad, beyond canned statements (exception: a good trolling by @danescalise). For this reason I reached out to you several times to share your thoughts. You didn't respond. But the offer still stands.

@whqr feels so fervently that DEI is an appropriate public policy. It’s been evident in its one-sided coverage of the issue. But it begs the question: what diversity of thought do they value on their board, or in their employ? Are there any Republicans? Even 1? I’ll wait..,

@Ben_Schachtman @WoodyWhite5 @danescalise 🧵Ben, every time I’ve dealt with you, you’ve been a fair journalist. School Board Chair Melissa Mason, the most conservative elected official in the county, once told me after a 2-hr in-studio interview that you were the fairest journalist in town.

@Ben_Schachtman @WoodyWhite5 @danescalise My only issue with WHQR is that their journalists often don’t dig deep enough into stories. Too often, investigative pieces just scratch the surface. There’s so much happening in this town that deserves public scrutiny but isn’t being reported.

@Ben_Schachtman @WoodyWhite5 @danescalise Does WHQR lean left because Republicans refuse to go on record? If Republicans don’t participate, stories will naturally lack balance. If WHQR ever needs Republican input, feel free to contact Melissa Mason, Scott Mason, Diane Zaryki, or myself. We’d gladly provide comment.
