/ On Friday, the Syrian Transitional Government (STG) announced it will recognize certificates issued by the Autonomous Administration, a major step for the region's education system, which operated for years without recognition from Damascus.
/ Samira Haj Ali, spokesperson for the Education Board of DAANES, told RIC that the decision is a significant and positive step for students who have faced many difficulties over the years under the DAANES system.
/ Ali said:
“For years, our students continued studying despite war, displacement, and the absence of recognition,” she said. “The legitimacy of this education came... from the determination of students, teachers, and families... Today, these efforts are being acknowledged.”
/ Despite the recognition of education certificates, major challenges remain: including the question of education in one's mother-tongue, curriculum integration, recognition beyond Syria, and the long-term status of DAANES educational institutions.
