The "this is what Anthropic asked for" take is stupid and wrong.

This is exactly what export control rules were made for. Arguing that a government should speed run creating entirely new rules is stupid and wrong. That will not go well. Anthropic are the ones calling their own model a cyber weapon. Having said that this whole situation does suck. I also want Fable back.

@ShakeelHashim It's not that they explicitly asked for this exact action. It's that their hyperbole, comms and fear-mongering / bragging about Mythos directly made a reaction like this an obvious outcome at some point.

@ShakeelHashim the government was never going to read the rationalist religious texts and then engage with Anthropic and the other labs on those terms. it was either going to ignore them altogether or realize that they were a competing locus of power and subsume, commandeer or dismantle them.
