Our gem this week is @tots_tate, and it’s going to be a very artsy thread filled with mixed media creations taking the imagination on a one-of-a-kind journey. We will also be chatting with Tater Tots during Artz Friday so enjoy the thread and tune in if you can. “Faux pas” is one of the works we look forward to asking more about during the space. It looks like a pet, perhaps a dog, but could also be a fox? The head is almost shaped more like a skull with horns, and the tail could even be seen as a flame. The title meaning “Fake Dance” plays with the interpretive nature of the piece, also sounding like “Fox Paws” when first read, at least as an English native speaker. "Roses are red, violets are violet" is a stunning bouquet drawn entirely in colored pencil. It's a direct, impressive showcase of pure technique, and it stands out against Tater Tots' otherwise abstract and playful mixed media work. Proof of an artist who can carry his creativity across wildly different workflows. Look closer, and you'll notice there's no vase. The bouquet floats, freshly cut, as if it hasn't yet found its final destination. This piece, alongside "Faux Pas," belongs to the collection "Peduncular Hallucinosis," named for a rare condition that produces vivid, dreamlike hallucinations. “Cake” is from the 2022 henreunion event, and something about it just simply stands out, like Funfetti. You just have to stop and acknowledge there is something fun about it.
