The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) announced a landmark initiative, SITAA: Scheme for Innovation and Technology Association with Aadhaar, to catalyze next-gen innovation in India’s digital identity technology (ID Tech) ecosystem.
Anchored in the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and the continued evolution of Aadhaar as the backbone of India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), SITAA aims to unlock the potential of India’s thriving startup and research community to co-create secure, inclusive, and scalable identity solutions.
SITAA will serve as a structured engagement framework enabling open innovation for startups, academia, and industry partners working on identity technologies and Aadhaar-enabled use cases. The scheme aims to offer multiple pathways, such as funded support and co-development partnerships, enabling innovators to collaborate with UIDAI and contribute to building globally benchmarked digital identity solutions.
To operationalize SITAA, UIDAI entered into strategic partnerships by signing Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with NASSCOM and the MeitY Startup Hub (MSH). These collaborations are aimed at strengthening and expanding the innovation ecosystem around ID tech, fostering greater engagement with startups, academia, and industry stakeholders.
Through these partnerships, UIDAI seeks to accelerate the development and adoption of cutting-edge technologies that will enhance the Aadhaar ecosystem and contribute to building robust, future-ready digital identity solutions for Bharat. This program will be kick started through a pilot
with few initial challenges.
