My best advice is to NOT rely on Motivation, and instead rely on Self-Discipline. Motivation is something that you have no control over, it comes and goes, it's random. Whereas Self-Discipline is something you CAN control. If you truly want to make games as a professional (there are no rules if you're just making it for fun) then you need to treat it like a professional task. Meaning you need to do what you NEED to do whether you feel like it or not. There's not magic answer beyond that, it's just how it is. Good thing is how Self-Discipline is a skill that you can learn! I used to be terrible, back when I started making a living from my games and I tried to force myself to work it did not go well. I was only able to force myself to work about 2 hours per day and that was it. But over time I focused on learning that skill and nowadays I can work 8-10 hour days without issues even if the thing I need to do isn't something I particularly feel like doing. If it has to be done then it has to be done.

@UnityCodeMonkey Do you have any tips for staying on track with your projects? I find myself really excited to work on personal projects one day, and the next I feel no motivation.

@UnityCodeMonkey If I may ask, how exactly did you learn the skill of self-discipline? Was it a shift in way of thinking, a logging process? I feel like right now I also force myself to work, which causes massive burnout. Not only in my dev journey but honestly most things in my life.

Basically self discipline is like a muscle and the more you train it the stronger it gets. So you start by forcing yourself to work 10 minutes every day whether you feel like it or not, then 20 mins, 30 mins, 1 hour, 2 hours, etc, etc. That's basically it. It's very simple but of course difficult to do.

@UnityCodeMonkey I appreciate the response! Thank you for the insight, I’m going to have to try to incorporate it with the time blocks like you mention.
