This is why I can’t take ikhtilaat and segregation discourse seriously by otherwise “pious” people who insist on remaining in sodom and gomorrah People will look Shazia from accounts in the eye when talking to her in the office, and then performatively pretend she doesn’t exist when passing her outside the masjid

Freemixing is not ideal at the same time, it's difficult to avoid it and if you're in dar-ul-harb, a question arises "Do you want Muslim women to freemix with Muslim men or with non-muslim men?"

@WDLD0712 I wasn’t aware this many Muslim women in west work/desire to work, so it’s performative. Unless she’s a housewife

There's actually an interesting authentic report I read a long time ago. A group of Muslims went to Al Hassan Al Basri because they were concerned about non-Muslim women who were selling things in the marketplace. They wanted to buy the items but the women were uncovered, with their hair showing. So they asked him, is it permissible to buy from them? And if so, is it permissible to look at them? Al Hassan Al Basri responded: "Yes and yes. Provided it's without lust." I'll need to find this report.

@WDLD0712 I don't get your point here though. It's literally never been true in Islam that you can't look at the opposite sex when talking to them. That has literally never been true. Merely looking has never been a sin. The sin was always looking with lust. Not merely looking.

@WDLD0712 I will say this Freemixing is absolutely haram only on two cases. Khalwat and ones where it is basically packed to the brim. The rest is ikhtilaaf. I know this from my Ustadh.

@WDLD0712 Why are we looking Shazia from accounts in the eye, that's the issue to begin with.
