For the record, I don't agree with the interpretation of that hadith which says that we can't initiate or reply with the full Arabic greeting of peace.

7 months since I quit my job and switched to freelancing.
The hardest part has been adjusting to not having a fixed monthly income. Sometimes it is more, sometimes less. But getting used to this has made me appreciate the concepts of Tawakul and Rizq more.
In terms of lifestyle, I do not think I can go back. The freelance lifestyle suits me well, and gives me plenty of time to focus on family, my personal projects, and my adventures.
