If you dismiss every rape allegation as false simply because a few people you know were wrongly accused, why is it difficult to accept that there is verified evidence showing thousands of cases where men have been convicted, confessed, or caught committing sexual violence against women/minors? We are still uncovering details from Epstein’s trafficking scandal, and that represents only one example among many.
What should be encouraged is a fair and thorough investigation into every accusation, ensuring justice for victims while also holding false accusers accountable when claims are proven untrue.
We also need stronger awareness campaigns about sexual assault beyond online conversations. Many programs focus on women, but there is a noticeable lack of education and advocacy targeting men, raising questions about why more men are not leading these efforts.
From an outside perspective, it can appear that in Nigeria, instead of prioritizing investigation and prosecution, there is often pressure to silence victims to avoid embarrassment, which ultimately protects perpetrators rather than delivering justice.
