Lunging our way through our first official @theiamarkerless data collection. Excited to have this new addition to the @MemphisBiomech lab up and running!

@LeeSharpeNFL @tejfbanalytics I do some work with play-by-play and game summary data for our school, but have always been curious about some of these other metrics like epa, wpa, elo ratings, etc. any good comprehensive sources on definitions?
English

Based on Draft Kings spreads for all 272 games, here is how many #NFL points each team is rated above/below the average NFL team, and what their elo rating would be (with a 1500 average).

Exciting summer camp within @UofMHealthSci!
This sport science camp, hosted by @Acarnall85, is a week-long immersive experience for high school students who are engaged in athletics, or who may be interested in pursuing higher education in a sport science field!
Check it out!

@C_Horsfall1 @Coach_Lanteigne @GSAthletics_MSO Congratulations on your move to Kentucky, by the way. I’m sure that will be an incredible experience!
English

@Acarnall85 What school is the sunbelt has a sports scientist or guy with science in their title?
English

Important conversations to be had here, shouts out my guy @Acarnall85 for leading this charge

If I followed you recently, I found you while doing a bit of background. There’s a very clear boundary here.
English

@ScientistSports @JoeD_Strength @PPetersonSC Agree. Folks with the experience and qualifications to do a great job come with bigger price tags than (smaller $) departments will accept. Lacking a full-time sport scientist isn't a liability issue either at the moment, making them a flashy accessory vs. a budgetary necessity.
English

@ScientistSports @JoeD_Strength @PPetersonSC I have 2 reasons I went through the process. Your last point may be the most salient, and it feels like NSCA tried to account for that by combining academic credentials & experience for CPSS eligibility. Bigger issue may be institutions defining 'sport science' for themselves.
English

@Acarnall85 @JoeD_Strength @PPetersonSC Great question:
IMO right now answer would be D.
Appreciate the effort by NSCA. We are still in infancy of SpSci in US and how it’s framed/applied (to Joes point). CPSS is geared to a subset practitioner. Making it a blanket requirement would exclude a lot of experienced ppl
English

@ScientistSports @JoeD_Strength @PPetersonSC "Not sure that ________ the best path forward"
Do you mean (a) the certification itself, (b) the use of it as a 'screening' tool, (c) the NSCA being the one to offer it, or (d) all of the above?
English

@JoeD_Strength @PPetersonSC @Acarnall85 This is compounded by territorial battles and SC coaches laying claim to “sports science” and further engrained by this new NSCA certification.
Starting to see it pop up on SpSci job postings along w CSCS.
Not sure that’s the best path forward
English

@JoeD_Strength @PPetersonSC @ScientistSports I don’t think you mean this the way it reads. I read this as: a PT using catapult cannot be sport science.
We both know that with the right PT asking/answering the right questions, it can be.
What I think you mean is what Pat said below re: indiscriminate title assignments.
English

@ScientistSports @JoeD_Strength @PPetersonSC What I found was:
Berkeley: 1
Colorado: 3
Oregon: 2
So. Cal: 1
Stanford: 2
Utah: 3
Washington: 2
Total = 14
English

@JoeD_Strength @PPetersonSC @Acarnall85 Last check Pac-12 numbers aren’t that high either. TMK
2 schools have true SpSci depts (Utah, Oregon).
Colorado would argue to be included
USC has a robust academic dept so maybe they are including that?
ASU is building out an academic unit
A few random SC coaches?
But 12????
English

@JoeD_Strength @PPetersonSC To be counted was to have ‘science’ or ‘scientist’ in job title on athletics staff directory.
A&M has 6 such cases inc. ‘fellow’ roles. On the other hand, 2/3 of LSU’s ‘performance innovation’ team don’t meet this criteria. I guess you could say some got in, some got left out

@Acarnall85 Yep, good $. I was more referring to the competition itself. I clearly should have specified :)
