I would understand if she included meals or provided regular cleaning, but just to sleep there? I would have been OK with maybe $100 a week, but $150 seems excessive to me. She's mad at me for saying this, but I'm hurt too. How can my own mom charge me as much as a landlord just for a place to sleep? My mom got mad when I told her I would rather live on my own that keep paying her $600 a month in rent. I'm 25 years old and have been paying $60 a week in rent to my parents for a while now. I recently landed a decent paying job and this morning, I received a message from my mom telling me that from now on, the rent would be $150 per week. I text her back, saying I would rather live elsewhere. I pay for my own food and I'm not willing to pay $150 per week just for a room to sleep in at my own mothers house. With that kind if money, I could rent a small apartment or even split the rent with a friend for less.
