@ailanyus No, I think welfare should be replaced with workfare. Everyone who wants to claim benefits must contribute in some fashion. We have all the infrastructure in place to allow even the most handicapped to help out at a library, a school, a hospital, community center, etc...

Do you really think people should need to pass a drug test to get welfare benefits? 🤔

"This land is our land." As an American and thus a member of the only people who qualify as indigenous to the Moon, I offer for consideration the incorporation of the moon as the 51st State, and naming it "Trump". Further, any Canadian who sets foot on our soil must first submit a Land Acknowledgements statement recognizing Americans as the Lunar First Nation, and respecting our special authority over these, our ancestral lands.

Considering how much hype from the general public Artemis II is getting, I can’t imagine what it’s going to be like when SpaceX lands the skyscraper sized HLS on the Moon in a couple years.

@engineers_feed And you were there to actually witness this, and around long before that so you could 100% determine that no one else, anywhere .... sigh such statements make me cringe. Now if you had phrased it as a Question.... inviting speculation and debate.... then ok. U R a TT.

@acoyne The Tyranny of Geography. Japan (approx 145,937 sq mi) is literally smaller than goofy-newfie-land. Total cost of Japanese HSR to date: Aprox 100 billion USD. Imagine that 20x, the distances x 100. That would be why. Well that and politicians with spines (in Japan, not Canada)

I think their advice would be: Cram 120 million people into an area slightly smaller than Newfoundland. Put 93 per cent of them in cities. Even in the Quebec-Windsor corridor, population density is a fraction of Japan's; the economics of high-speed rail are accordingly a little different.
Mark Marissen@marissenmark

I just came back from a trip to Japan. The Japanese could figure out how to provide their citizens high speed rail. There’s no reason why we can’t. Don’t let Pierre Poilievre deny Canadians high speed rail. If we need help and advice from the Japanese, let’s get it.

Amazing project from ETH Zürich ! It combines wheels with tiltable propellers that generate force to press the robot against the wall while also pushing it upward, allowing it to continue moving vertically with agility. 🎥 mauricio.frizzarin

t.co/8TKpr28ZGk British TV host Alex Phillips tells Islamists to shove their “Islamophobia” blasphemy law. She doubles down on the burka ban and calls to follow Italy’s lead, banning both virginity tests and full-face Islamic veils. “We are culturally Christian,” she said, and argued for the UK government to defend Britain’s identity, culture, and values. Do you agree with her?

@Pinboard That 1 picture, if that was all we gained from space science, then ya. But you have to be retarded to think that this one picture is all we get from it. There are literally trillions in benefits to almost every aspect of life due to space exploration. Grow up.

@wakenminds Weeeeellllll, 500 year ago, the Men building monuments were usually 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation versions of their forefathers.. so they literally spend their entire lives learning the craft. 20 year old apprentice -already "in school" for 15ish years. That's = multiple degrees.

China emits more CO₂ in 12 days than Australia does in a whole year. Yet Australia's tiny fleet of coal plants and 1% share of global emissions is somehow the climate emergency. Make it make sense.

@marissenmark I'd like to see Rail in Canada vastly expand to all corners (where possible) not only to carry people and goods, but to also bring back the ability to bring your vehicle along. This would make long distance travel with electric cars feasable. Add High speed to that, even better.

Seems like most people against high speed rail in Canada assume that everyone will ride it for free. And they also appear to assume that there will be no economic or environmental spinoff. We never hear them complain about building more highways or bridges.
