@DebtCamel I thought something weird was up - Money Wellness take their responsibilities to consumers very seriously

@DebtCamel @CIVEAOfficial @TheFCA Well done Debt Camel. Your posts are so helpful. As an Insolvency Practitioner who does help individuals with serious problem debt, I would hate someone to be conned about the most appropriate solutions for their circumstances.

@PaulOzNo1 We need more debt advice provision not less and SC and PP are hugely important as are the free advice sector. Need a balance and less energy spent on negative shots!!

@BevBud Yes, agree Bev. It will be the case that they have been monitoring the payment defaults and future risks and may come to the conclusion that’s it better to review in the hope of reducing actual failures /terminations and in turn overall financial damage. Tricky times for SC

Crikey! Its a positive IMO but will it really happen and will it risk serious financial knock on damage. Also will the 'others' follow suit and if not why not? They must be in the same position or even worse. Is the bell finally tolling for the troubled IVA Industry.
Debt Camel@DebtCamel

new post - @StepChange is proposing a mass variation of all of its IVAs to give greater flexibility in reducing payments because of cost of living problems. I think this is better than @insolvencygovuk guidance over the summer: debtcamel.co.uk/stepchange-mas…

Agreed for DMPs as well and for the SDRP if it does materialise. DRO debt level at £30k is very fair.
Debt Camel@DebtCamel

@BevBud DMPs as well? Your first tweet said formal debt solutions. But increasing numbers of free sector clients had negative income even before the energy bill nightmare. So the DRO changes are needed anyway.

An easier fix is to get Ofgem to issue directive to utility providers that arrears of Utilities can be included in IVAs and other debt solutions and no Prepayment meters.
Debt Camel@DebtCamel

@BevBud So we reform DROs so they work for all low/ negative DIs. Debt level is easily changed. 50k or unlimited? As can the value of a car. 5k, 10k or more? That leaves need to exclude main residence. A harder ask, but why not? creditors gain nothing from endless token payments.

@DebtCamel These are cases which generally are not appropriate for DRO’s due to debt and asset levels.

@BevBud I think PPM energy should be the same cost as paying by other methods for everyone, and there should be no unaffordable deductions for energy debt. Which I think would give you what you are asking for without any need for special treatment for IVAs?

@DebtCamel When advising clients we try to factor in arrears as priority payments rather than include arrears in the IVA do thst they do not end up with meters and gas/elec charged at higher prices. However the arrears are getting higher and affordability lower leaving no surplus.

@JoeyPet97588029 Seems like a USA based lead Gen company, they clearly will not have debt counselling as a permission. Needs to be flagged to FCA - where are get advertising?

Not sure about £30,000 - a reasonable salary for an experienced advisor with say 4 to 5 years experience would be £26,000 to £28,000.

Well, well, talk of us getting a genuine no strings attached free credit report service. It’s what we’ve always said. Sadly it looks like it will be too little too late for those of us facing the exit door. Never mind maybe the nit pickers can do the DROs ;)
