The Chagos deal is dead and good riddance. It was a strategic blunder from the start by this Labour government and a disaster waiting to happen. Many of us warned the government but they simply refused to listen, now they will have to make another humiliating U-turn. telegraph.co.uk/politics/2026/… Perhaps those close to the government who made very tidy sums promoting this disastrous deal might now consider donating some of those earnings to the Chagossian people whose interests were so often overlooked in the process.

The Chagos deal is dead. Good. I would have resigned as Defence Secretary rather than hand over a critical British asset – and pay another country for the privilege for 100 years. It was always madness.

If Keir Starmer’s Chagos surrender now finds its rightful place - on the ash heap of history - it will be because Conservatives led the fight against it from day one. That it took so long is another damning indictment of a prime minister, who fought to hand over British sovereign territory and pay £35 billion to use a crucial military base which was already ours. Unlike Labour, we will always put our country first. We are the only party who can be trusted to stand up for Britain’s interests abroad.

@Noahpinion Trump & Putin will do everything they can to undermine European unity. Brexit was a huge success in that regard. Just look at the propagandists & the funders involved, aided by plenty of greedy collaborators. The process continues. We are effectively at war on two fronts.
