At long last we have a law for dangerous cyclists and e-bikes. Those who cycle or ride e-bikes recklessly causing fatal accidents to pedestrians or road users can now feel the full force of the law. Matt Briggs and others who have campaigned for justice should be congratulated for their perseverance. telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/04/2…

🤝Today we met with the @Steph_Peacock to make the case for expanding philanthropy to smaller charities. Grassroots charities do vital work but are so often overlooked for funding. We're looking forward to working with government to get philanthropy to those who need it most.

The appalling attack on two Jewish men, one aged 76, the other 34, in Golders Green today is utterly unacceptable. These stabbings are intolerable. The rise of anti-Semitism in this country is shocking, and it is growing. We cannot go on turning a blind eye to the hatred being directed at Jewish people on our streets. telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/04/2… This is no longer a series of isolated incidents. It is a national crisis, and it demands a firmer response including action against marches most weeks and gatherings that serve only to inflame and legitimise hate. We should also move without delay to proscribe the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and any organisations that incite, support or enable this kind of violence. Enough equivocation. Enough hesitation. The safety of British Jews must come first.

🚨BREAKING: Cuckooing has been recognised as a standalone criminal offence, with the Crime and Policing Bill receiving Royal Assent just now✍️ The CSJ and @JusticeandCare have long campaigned for those trapped in their own homes, controlled by dangerous gangs, to be recognised as victims of crime. Thanks to the @CSJFoundation Alliance of small charities for raising the alarm, and all those MPs who backed @MPIainDS’ Amendment👇

It’s scandalous that six MILLION workers earn LESS than many jobless claimants. thesun.co.uk/news/38957947/… Over six million workers now get less in post-tax wages than many jobless claimants, with claimants telling The Sun they now see no point at all in taking a job, given the combined benefit packages available.

Northern Ireland Troubles Bill is a mess and it should not proceed. It was flawed from the outset and Ministers now admit it may need major changes, yet they ask the House to agree to carry it over and vote without seeing what those changes will be. Carry-over is meant for settled legislation, not for something this contentious and uncertain. From the beginning, we warned that veterans would still face vexatious pursuit through the courts. We were dismissed. Now, at the last moment, the Government appears to concede that those warnings were justified. I served in Northern Ireland and lost a close friend, Robert Nairac. I want truth, but this Bill will not deliver it. Nor will dragging veterans repeatedly through the courts. There are also serious unanswered questions about the role of the Irish Government and the information still withheld. Where is the transparency and where is the accountability? The Government has handled this poorly from start to finish and now asks us to trust that it will somehow be fixed later. We should not accept that. This is bad legislation, badly handled, and it is time to reject it.

A national scandal. NEITHER of the men principally responsible for the UK's self-harming China policy (Mandelson and Powell) were DV cleared before they were appointed. Both with heavily chequered histories of China engagement. National security clearly an afterthought....
Richard Holmes 🕵🏻‍♂️@Richard_AHolmes

BREAK: National Security Advisor, Johnathan Powell, was appointed before going through DV clearance, Morgan McSweeney claims. The Prime Minister's former Chief of Staff also says he was appointed before being security cleared. My understanding was that Peter Mandelson was a rare case due to being a former Minister and member of the Lords, but this suggests something far more widespread.

Keir Starmer misled Parliament, sacked officials for his own failures, and risked national security with Mandelson’s appointment. MPs will now vote on referring him to the Privileges Committee. The Prime Minister should be held to the same standards he held others.

I spoke earlier on LBC Radio about the Government’s so-called “war” on shoplifting. The truth is, you don’t win this unless you deal with the reality on our high streets. Having been out with local police in Chingford and Woodford Green, I’ve seen that reality. Too many big retailers are not reporting crime properly, leaving police with the wrong picture. Too many offenders are arrested and let straight back out. No consequence means no deterrent. Too many small shopkeepers have simply given up reporting altogether. This is not low-level theft. It is organised, brazen and happening in plain sight. Where we have proper reporting, visible policing and real consequences, crime falls.

‼️NEW: Data out today shows that 2/3 of convicted shoplifters reoffend. The CSJ can reveal that the average number of offences committed by a shoplifter has nearly DOUBLED in the last 5 years, increasing from 5.5 to 9.1. We must address soaring shoplifting levels if we are to repair Britain's broken high streets.

Communities across Britain are suffering from a high street crime wave. Set against years of economic difficulties, there is a risk that some of our town and city centres are left permanently hollowed out. I’ve called on the government to put cracking down on shoplifting at the heart of its upcoming high street strategy, which has pledged £150m to regenerate local town centres. cityam.com/national-scand… The @csjthinktank has launched a new inquiry into Britain’s “broken high streets,” looking at the links between growing shoplifting and the spread of vape shops and “mini-marts” which are potential fronts for illegal activity.
