Iain Duncan Smith MP Chingford & Woodford Green
@MPIainDS
Conservative MP for Chingford & Woodford Green Promoted by M. Goldie of 105c Station Road, Chingford, E4 7BU.

It is very striking that Matthew Doyle, Starmer's former director of communications, was a key figure in vetting Mandelson's appointment When the Cabinet Office highlighted the reputational risks of appointing Mandelson because of his friendship with Epstein, the prime minister asked a series of questions via his then chief of staff It is Doyle who looked at Mandelson's responses and declared that he was 'satisfied with his responses to questions about conduct' The same Doyle who later confirmed that he was a 'personal friend' of Mandelson and 'certainly would have seen him at social events around December 2024' The same Doyle who was subsequently promoted by Starmer to the Lords, only to have the whip removed after @Gabriel_Pogrund revealed he had campaigned for a sex offender It is striking **how little** vetting was done in response to the due diligence report. McSweeney asked Mandelson three questions. Mandelson's answers were accepted at face value As much as Starmer can argue that Mandelson lied/ there was a failure of process, there is also an extraordinary lack of curiosity from the PM and those around him Jonathan Powell, the National Security Adviser, and Philip Barton, the perm sec at the FCDO, are the only ones who appear to raise concerns and both are overruled

NEW - Mandelson was offered a "higher tiers" briefing on January 6, before his developed vetting was confirmed on January 29, emails appear to show. This mean he was offered highly classified briefing from the FCDO as US ambassador before he finished the formal vetting process

Conclusions from the Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee report on the EU Reset, 4th March: "Parliament will, in effect, be asked to outsource more of its legislative autonomy to [the EU]" Is this what you vote and pay for your MPs to do? Outsource decision making to the EU?
