There's a verse I think about sometimes.
Many times.
It's one of Jesus' first miracles, where a paralyzed man is brought into the home he's preaching in and is laid before him.
Now the spirit of the Lord is already upon Jesus to heal, but what happens next reveals the true purpose of His ministry on Earth.
"Friend, your sins are forgiven" the Lord declares to the paralyzed man.
In the same moment, the pharisees and teachers of the law reason within themselves saying, “Who is this fellow who speaks blasphemy? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
Rightly so, only God can do such a thing.
Jesus knew what they were thinking and asked, “Which is easier to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’?
I imagine there was a deafening silence throughout the crowd as the Lord was about to perform the most clear and concise demonstration of His purpose here on Earth; waging his credibility and purpose against a seemingly impossible task of healing a paralyzed man.
"But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins”—He said to the man who was paralyzed, “I say to you, arise..."
The man stood up that very instant, completely restored and able to walk.
The crowd was awestruck and full of fear, as the man from Galilee just proved to the world that he was in fact God in the flesh and had power over every sickness, disease and sin.
Here's the good news.
He still does.
He still has power over ALL things, He still heals, and He still restores.
If you're suffering today, mentally, physically, emotionally or spiritually - don't suffer alone.
Let's pray together.
Father God, thank you for sending your one and only Son to die for us on the cross, that His perfect sacrifice and shed blood would atone for our sins, and that same blood would also cleanse us of all unrighteousness, would heal our physical wounds, restore our emotional well being, and would bring us into perfect fellowship and relationship with you.
Be with my friends today as they endure their own battles, and give them the same power by your Holy Spirit that Christ himself had when he performed such miraculous feats.
We thank you and pray all these things in the name of Jesus.
