I am absolutely delighted with this news! At my most recent meetings in Leinster House I raised this issue as these journey times are crucial to those flying to Dublin for cancer treatment. Good news.

The state should ensure that every cancer patient automatically receives a medical card for the duration of their illness. @MichaelC_IND_TD

Once upon a time, more than 10 years ago, it used to be relatively straightforward to get a discretionary time-limited medical card with a cancer diagnosis. The state clamped down on this practice in 2013. Today discretionary medical cards and cancer require a short prognosis. It requires a certain type of letter. Also what has fallen out of fashion: timely access to treatment and access to standard-of-care treatment. What hasn’t fallen out of fashion: it is a dark time in anyone’s life. I suppose after all there are other more pressing priorities. Did this guy not get the memo? Could somebody send him the press release?
