@velonews Come on @velonews this was far from the biggest story of the year in crit racing. And #critbeef is our term. Please give credit to where credit is due. If you need better and more accurate crit content please feel free to reach out to us.

The ambition and motivation of successful athletes betrays them, leading those same athletes to dramatically overwork themselves. The role of a coach is to guide them away from this path.
Steve Magness@stevemagness

After 100 years of experimenting, modern coaching has settled on that even the best of the best athletes can only handle ~2-3 hard workouts a week. If you're trying to do more than this as an average athlete, you might ask why you think you can handle more than the pros?

@SportsOrla They handle it quite well, coming from a former soccer player. There are a lot of former D1 soccer players that raced during my cycling tenure. I played for @msstate

Genuinely curious how a footballer would take on a bike race. Think they’d toughen the feck up or would they still fall over if someone touched their handlebars?

For a piece I'm writing - When do you feel most joyful on a bike? (Flying down a hill, riding with your family, etc.) Would love any and all stories!!

@_amanda_panda_ @kylesockwell I never even used a bottle of water in those 2 hours. I’d add scientifically incorporating weights and strength training. And just saying screw it to even pretending like any other stroke other than backstroke existed.

@kylesockwell I wish we had been more educated on sport science / nutrition / hydration. Two hour practices on a bottle of water? As a cyclist now I cringe knowing missed opportunities back then.
