The Supreme Court struck a blow to voting rights that sends us hurtling backward down a path we have struggled to deviate from for over 60 years.
Although the struggle becomes more difficult, we cannot abandon it. Barbara Jordan didn’t; in 1976, she asked a question as relevant then as now:
“Should we cease to be one nation, and become instead a collection of interest groups... if that happens, who then will speak for America? Who will then speak for the common good?”
