Now that the inquest has been done and it's public knowledge, I can tell you about the Bronze Age hoard I found at the start of the year. Current thinking is that it is a founders hoard due to the presence of a bronze ingot.

@Dodgypunter51 Very interesting. These caves are all man made unfortunately, result of mining activity in the 19th/20th Century.

@DetectCumbria Stunning pictures, i also love a cave! Lucky to have a couple on current land, i do believe they found prehistoric bones and human activity by a chap called Edward Widger 🤷🏽‍♂️☺️ Image 1) entrance image 2) where original dig occurred

Another wander into the Lake District today. Cathedral caves, Slaters bridge and a visit to Yew Tree Farm which Beatrix Potter used to own!

The 1943 sixpence, looking like it only fell out of someone's pocket yesterday. Great condition.

@DetectCumbria The letters mean Georgius Rex Imperator. This style of title was removed after 1948. Thus the reign of George VI can be split into two numismatically.

Not out for long today as the battery died on the detector, but it was productive. Two bits of silver, first of 2026! One Victorian silver spoon, and an immaculate George VI sixpence dated 1943. Also a harness ring/buckle/ring money/thing.

@SDetectorist Thanks. I'm taking it to the land owner next week for them to see, so I'll see what they want to do with it before I touch it!

@DetectCumbria It might go back. If I was doing it I would anneal it, then straighten a fraction, the repeat. The shaft should be relatively straight forward, but I always struggle with the bowls.

@DetectCumbria 1857 Newcastle upon Tyne. Nice bit of 925 silver and remember, it's £1.94 a gram so don't throw it away :-)

Three more boars head livery buttons up today. I must be in double figures for the amount I've found of them in this particulat field, and I've only covered about a third of it! I seem to remember that it was a crest of the Warcop family.
