@johnarnold The state legislature will just say that the billion comes from money that was previously lost to offshore betting that went completely untaxed. Whether or not that is true is a different story.

Imaginary exchange with a state legislator: Me: Why did you vote to legalize online sports betting? Them: It will generate $100 mln/year for programs that benefit our residents. Me: Where does that money come from? Them: A 10% tax on total gaming revenue. Me: What does that imply about total revenue? Them: Easy, $1 billion. Me: And where does that $1 billion come from? Them: Umm...

@JonAguiar @masonnystrom Don’t forget anyone with a pulse who is limited to pennies on DK while losing whales get their limits set to infinite. DK didn’t even make their own odds until 2022, it’s pathetic to think the oligopoly of sportsbook deserve 100% market share with an inferior/high cost product.

@masonnystrom Sports prediction markets have the potential to dramatically expand the market for sports betting by opening the market to 18-year-olds, self-excluded problem gamblers, those who owe child support, and residents of democratic states that have voted against allowing it

@Kalshi with the dumbest moves I've ever seen a fin ex make by reducing golf tick size to 1/10c 36 hours before the most traded event of the year with no warning to any stakeholders (MM's, etc.) Better hope they trust their devs. This could break as bad as DK MMA DFS late swap.

@RufusPeabody My takeaway from this is: guy who gets queue thinks it’s a bad idea and guy who sucks at getting queue thinks it’s a good idea. Shockingly, both opinions favor the side that will individually make them more money. Yet they both mask it with “logic” as to why their side is right

I strongly disagree. I've been requesting deci-cents on golf for a long time. Deci-cents hurts top-down market makers and rewards better pricing. The game is no longer about queue position on something a square 6th grader could price because it's trading at 1c/2c. On live, yeah, it probably hurts margins for MMs pulling odds from sportsbooks. Aside from the courtsiding issue, it's very easy to price something at -9900/+4900. It's just speed and queue management. Short term maybe liquidity dips, but long run you get more competitive prices. You say recs don't care about price but a rec does care about 499/1 instead of 99/1. And your argument about taking being harder is easily solved via a configurable "slippage" feature that many orderbooks already have. If done right, it should feel no different to recs. I'll be more active in live MM now that more than 5% of the field is tradeable and the competition is about having better prices, not being first in queue at 98c laying a golfer DraftKings has at 80/1. Also, 40 million contracts sounds like a lot, but when most of that volume is taking at 1c, actual bet volume from takers is much smaller than other markets trading 40 mill.

I think this post highlights an issue. Adhi is very smart and someone I respect a lot. So when he says that deci-cent for golf is one of the "most requested" features. Or he's hearing from everyone "golf is broken on Kalshi", I think it mirrors what a lot of smart people at PMs MAY be hearing. But WHO is saying it's broken, and WHO is requesting these features? I can tell you who isn't saying this. 1. Recs 2. Market Makers who are staying up LIVE which is 80% of volume and all that matters. Pregame is useless. 3. The people counting the money at Kalshi. THE VALSPAR CHAMPIONSHIP - a tournament a PGA Tour players don't even care about. Was the 3rd most traded event during the first week of March Madness. This change to deci-cent hurts: 1. Recs who want to bet live - they will fail to get their bet at an exponentially higher rate and they DONT CARE ABOUT PRICE. 2. The valuable MMs (ones who are up live doing the lords work, dodging courtsiders etc..) 3. Kalshi So it helps...me 2 years ago? This would have been a really great update for me and like 10 other sharp golf bettors back when we were 100% taking. And it helps the penny jumpers ofc.

@rickjeff78 @Crushers_GC Agreed with strategy. But I’m a 10 handicap and I don’t think I could hit 18 green with a 7 iron at a high frequency. More likely in a bunker and under the pressure I probably blade or chunk the bunker shot

⛳️🤔 DISCUSSION: You have a four shot lead standing on the 18th tee and need a triple bogey or better to win The Masters. Win and you get $5 Million. Fail, and you go to prison for a year. Would you do it? 🤔

@AbnormallyDist And Im wrong that UIGEA “clearly stated it’s legal”. But it clearly stated that it was considered a game of skill rather than gambling.

It appears that at least between the US, Europe, and Japan, operating a truly legal gambling operation in a developed nation is structurally unprofitable. You will never earn more than your cost of capital with almost no exceptions. The only way to make money is gray areas.

@AbnormallyDist States still have a choice whether or not to allow it, but the federal government had a carve out that fantasy football was a game of skill, not gambling. Because of that, payment processors wouldn’t be breaking the law like they would be with online poker sites.

@goldenpants013 Idk what you’re talking about, you’re just predicting. Totally different. When recreational predictors try to push a price away from fair value, you’re providing a valuable purposes ensuring the world knows the true price. Way different than gambling!!!

The casinos and the casino lobby/ lawyers have always said: "You don't have a right to win money betting" I'd tell them a similar thing now. They don't have a right to exclusive access of recreational bettors. They can compete on product or in the order books if they want!

Overlay potential was always low in my opinion. Entries would keep trickling in all day as people got FOMO. I was never gonna pick Nebraska and Wisconsin either as I was on the Troy and High Point MLs. Also, you get 10% back on all entries for that contest. The early bird deal was only for the 1k contest, and I put in 5 entries on time to secure 10% rakeback. Gotta read the rules carefully!

@LodgePokerATX Hilarious how everyone continues to trust @DougPolkVids with all of the scandals he’s had and scams he’s allowed/promoted to fuck over his users. Total slime ball. Can’t wait for him to distance himself from this one and start a new grift.

Lodge Card Club Austin
Lodge Card Club Austin@LodgePokerATX·
We know our loyal staff, members, and followers have been anxiously waiting for an update regarding the recent events that led to the closure of the club. We recognize that the closure has had a serious impact for many. More than 200 staff members rely on The Lodge for their livelihoods, and many of our members have funds tied up in chips or pending tournament payouts. We understand the concern and frustration and we want everyone to know that it is not being taken lightly. As much as we would like to provide a detailed update, we are unable to do so at this time because, despite our legal team’s best efforts to obtain additional information from the authorities, very little information has been made available. What we do know is that no charges have been filed, and we remain committed to cooperating fully so that any concerns can be addressed. At the same time, we can confirm that all of the club’s assets and bank accounts have been frozen. In addition, we have been told not to re-open until the investigation concludes. The Lodge has always taken its obligation to operate lawfully very seriously. The leadership team is committed to ensuring that The Lodge operates transparently, responsibly, and in good faith within Texas law by emphasizing strengthened oversight and continued improvement of operations. Unfortunately, we do not know how long this process will take or when we will be allowed to operate again. We obviously believe that the longer our doors remain closed, the greater the impact becomes — not just on the business itself, but on the hundreds of staff members, vendors, partners, and community members who rely on The Lodge every day. Your continued support of The Lodge — its traditions, its staff, and the community that exists inside these walls — means the world to us. We are upset and frustrated by the disruption this has caused and remain hopeful that we will be able to work constructively and with the authorities in a very timely manner so that we can move forward and reopen our doors. All we can do at the moment is to promise to share more information as soon as we are able. In the meantime, if The Lodge has meant something to you — as a place to play, work, or build friendships — we encourage you to share your support in the comments. Hearing from this community means more to our staff and leadership team than we can put into words.

Seems like Trump’s hedge to keep Republicans in power is to give Rubio the credit for Iran strikes and give Vance the credit for opposing the decision. Depending on the success of the operation, you’ll have one leader be able to run a presidential campaign on the correct side.
