@FifteethChance

I dunno. Everything's a bummer.

Two things can be true: 1. Byrne's reboot was very popular back in the day. 2. It is as distant from the modern character as anything from the 60s, and there is a reason no one talks about anything from it besides the origin.
Longest Arms@LongArmsPerk

The thing you have to understand about Byrne's Superman is that it was massively popular in a way the book hadn't been before, and that's because "Ultra-patriotic drywall dust about how Republican Midwestern values are an objective moral truth" is what sold well at that time.

@Wentos1 He's not, definitely not in the 2025 movie. That's the only thing he has in common with Byrne's Lex Technically. Supergirl is from Krypton as is Krypto, he's nebbish and award personality-wise, and defined by sense of loneliness ect. All that is shit Byrne rejected hard.

@FifteethChance Clark is the true identity Lex is a businessman The Kents are alive These are fairly ubiquitous aspects of Superman lore that were introduced in the Byrne reboot. All three were in Gunn's movie last year.

@LongArmsPerk @ProfofEvil I am not a pre-crisis purist, I think it's easy for it to look good, when you only cherry pick the classics and ignore the unambitious beige so much of 70s and early 80s consisted of... But like, at least there are classics for people to cherry pick.

@LongArmsPerk Well, *I* and my fellow weirdoes like @ProfofEvil do, but yeah, it's very clear everyone just thinks it went from Byrne straight to TAS, nobody knows WTF was going on in Superman books from 1986 to 2006, besides the one time he was beaten to death by a grey spikey Hulk.

@FifteethChance I mean, the original post wasn't about "deconstruction", it was about people who claim "good games" shouldn't take input from other games lol

@ThatComicFan3 why are there literally zero stories allowed to exist that focus on white men for a change being heroes instead of girlbosses?

Do think it's neat that comics twitter finally has their own "contempt for the medium" screenshot; an insightful little piece of meta-commentary that immediately lost all specificity or meaning the moment it became a meme

If you read pre-crisis Superman books you will finally appreciate Prankster. He dosnt feel like a Joker-lite or even a Toyman. He’s a scam artist. He’s got this reoccurring aspect of “I’m not touching you” “I’m not breaking laws” and the ability to get the crowd on his side.

@thefatspaceman Hmmmm... I think, them getting into reading long books, without getting the satisfaction of a finished story, may have discouraged them from seeking more. You can list all the reason why that's illogical, but since when are people logical?

Idle thought that I WILL abandon with even the slightest pushback: alongside the many well-documented other reasons, the decline in casual readership in the last 10-15 years can be blamed, in some part, on George RR Martin failing to deliver the Winds of Winter

Andrey 📚 - Fantasy Classic Book Club
People are accusing Andy Weir from stealing the robot from Interstellar but what you guys (people with inferior reading skills to me) don’t get is that he’s an alien not a robot so he can’t be the same character. Checkmate (not in a political way though)
Andrey 📚 - Fantasy Classic Book Club@zbogus77

Project Hail Mary is the greatest book I’ve ever read. The amazing character development from goofy scientist to goofy scientist in space and the side character alien that was totally not stolen from Interstellar make for such a bromance and the flowery prose makes it elite.
