@thefatspaceman I think it's worth noting a lot of the most famous deconstructions are by fans of the material, but yeah, it does end up reinforcing the idea it's only okay to criticize if it's ultimately how it's actually super great.

I understand why the pendulum is swinging this way but the "Noooo, the creators of [insert flavor-of-the-month violent superhero satire here] actually LOVE superheroes, they think they're epic, they're saying parody is bad, they have a Superman nightlight!!!" shit is exhausting.

Watched this last night. Among the most gorgeous science fiction films of its era, if not all time, but it's just so funny that this Cold War-era American take on the original story changes the thesis to be "God says only WE are allowed to blow everything up!!!!!"

The best decision Rian Johnson made in TLJ was killing off the pointless Emperor knockoff so that Adam Driver’s Kyle Ren could be front and center of the new universe, so of course the first think RoS did was just bring back the Emperor.
