Dear Secretary of State, Re: Call for Lieutenant Colonel Robert Blair Mayne to be recognised with the Victoria Cross I am writing to express my support for Lieutenant Colonel Robert Blair “Paddy” Mayne to be awarded the Victoria Cross. As one of the SAS’s most prominent figures, we know his leadership and heroism led to him being respected by those around him. It is tragic that, despite his many awards, he was denied the Victoria Cross due to what is now expected to be an accidental clerical error or omission. It is clear from the many stories of his self-sacrifice, and the compelling evidence which shows the honour should never have been denied in the first place, that a posthumous Victoria Cross should now be granted. By recognising Paddy Mayne's bravery, the Government would also be sending a powerful message of support to all veterans and military personnel at a time when they are being criminalised or made to feel ashamed. We owe it to all our service men and women to ensure the memory of those who served our country before them, like Paddy Mayne, is never lost.
