NAMI can be the tip of a spear to pierce mainstream edu defenses to the great benefit of special-needs students (also medical & veterinary school & Ivy league students) who are ideally positioned to benefit from #DeColonializedEdu: A new/old 100%-Expectations Golden-Rule method of assessments is proposed for special needs students - It asks every teacher to expect every student that is proven able to achieve a certain level of education, to achieve it. Period. Really. If a special needs child's abilities mean that by graduation at adulthood they may only read at a 6th grade level, then they need to hit a 1st grade level of competence by the 3rd grade, or else! Missing such a milestone is HUGELY consequential for each and every child. The damage done to the future of a special needs child is even worse than to a mainstream student. When a special needs child is unable to read as well as they are physically and mentally able by grade three - they are as unlikely to ever attain their true potential as any other student not reading at grade level - and are harmed equally in being deprived of being able to read, and to read as joyously, as they could have. There is a solution. A genuine, real, true solution - Education is NOT a synonym for Competition: Think on how we present info to kids in classrooms, exactly like we present a mechanical Hare to Racing Greyhounds on an illegal Racetrack, adjusting the speed as needed to deliver the desired outcome - a Colonialization-friendly Bell-curve "spread!" To #decolonializeEdu is to no longer treat edu as a competitive blood sport intended to separate the wheat from the chaff. No child is chaff! How dare we blame a special-needs student, or any student, and presume their "inability" to read on their not "wanting" to read enough, or that a student "deserves" it more, or less, when first striving to learn to read, to be allowed to "catch" our variable-speed reading-Hare! Harsh truth is - Kids love to learn. Seriously love it. Like dogs love balls. That much. Really. Hold up a tennis ball to a classroom full of Golden Retrievers and you KNOW exactly what is going to happen next. If they all run for the door, your first thought is that someone has severely mistreated these dogs using balls. There's no other explanation. Period. Hold up a book to a classroom full of kids and you know exactly what is going to happen next... You see the problem? The two responses should match. They don't. What have we been doing to our children, unknowingly? What are we doing, even now, to cause them to behave so unnaturally. Shame on us. Big-sigh! We are failing our students, our students are not failing us: Ivy league schools already do what is here-suggested, they just do it poorly, without benefit of understanding why what they're doing works so well. The Ivy schools allow or use various types of Pass-Fail assessments. However, by counting those who cannot answer from 60-65% of the questions needed for full proficiency as passing, the Ivy schools are nonetheless adhering to a colonialist system - "Colonialist" in that many Ivy school students are getting far less real knowledge, learning and education, up to 40% less, as other, for the exact same grade at the exact same cost. Yale University admits the lowest percentage of applicants and is considered to have one of the highest academic expectations of incoming students. Thus, there's no reason for every student admitted to not make straight A's, or B's at worst. That over half of students do this well has brought them grief though, not praise: Yale has become the go-to poster-child example of DEI hiring of teachers, DEI school admittance, meritless-grading, and meritless admissions.

Ivy League Universities  are being criticized & a bill is in Congress to BAN DEI at MEDICAL SCHOOLS - due to "evidence" of meritless grade inflation caused by DEI-Influenced admissions, discipline & assessment. They are being criticized because 60%+ of students get high grades.  They clumsily apply DeColonized Triple-100% Expectations Golden-Rule Education & Natural-Law Teaching - Closer to 100% should be passing with  full  mastery of the material. This is possible  because: Education & teaching have ZERO to do with Competition. Neither Evolution or Education are synonyms for Competition. Evolution is about Cooperation as much as Competition & does NOT Optimize. This week, my Somerville constituent Rümeysa Öztürk was abducted in broad daylight by DHS officials and sent to Louisiana to be locked in a detention center. She has not been charged with any crime. The video of her kidnapping is harrowing. Plainclothes officers wearing masks surrounded her, grabbed her by the wrists, took her phone away, and handcuffed her before taking her away in a vehicle. She was on her way to break her Ramadan fast, so I can only imagine how hungry and afraid she was. She also does not have her asthma medications with her—a human rights violation. This is unacceptable and she must be released immediately and have her visa restored NOW. Rümeysa is a peaceful protestor, a graduate student at Tufts University passionate about education, and my constituent who has a constitutional right to free speech and due process. She was here legally on a student visa, before it was unjustly revoked, and making numerous positive contributions to the Tufts and #MA7 community. This administration is terrorizing students to silence dissent because that’s what a dictator does. And the only reason she was kidnapped is because she has a dissenting political view, different from Donald Trump’s. That’s it. This should be a five-alarm fire for anyone who cares about free speech and our democracy — regardless of your political party, ideology, or opinion on Israel, Palestine, or any other issue. This is an assault on the core tenets of our democracy. It’s unlawful, unjust, and authoritarian, and every person of conscience should be outraged and alarmed. Because if they can do it to her, they can do it to anyone else.
