People didn’t leave because Glenn died lol. The viewership had a steep drop because they hit their peak from this episode. It just returned to normal levels (before dying off later thanks to bad writing). Glenn was everyone’s favorite character but at least his send off was in the craziest moment in the show. If anything it was Carl’s death that killed the show for many people. It was the biggest slap in the face to every fan who watched from the beginning. The show was meant to be about Rick Grimes and his journey to protect his family. Then the most important person to him (and his successor) dies in quite possibly the most pointless and random death in history. Then Rick proceeded to leave the show after. It wasn’t the story of Rick Grimes anymore, it was just another zombie show, and that’s when people checked out.

we underestimate people's emotional attachments to fictional characters. the walking dead literally lost 2 million viewers after they killed off glenn. 💀
