There should be one overwhelming priority for the EU — financially and politically: Get the fuck off fossil fuels. The security hawks obsessing over a Russian invasion are a distraction. The focus should be a Green Energy revolution.

The Greens were massively over-indulged in the last Government across multiple fronts: totally unrealistic migrant policy, totally unrealistic climate targets, those ridiculous referendums, the whole 'woke' carry-on.

This chart is simply unreal, a comparison of electricity generation and CO₂ intensity. France (blue) generates barely any emissions, but look at Germany (brown). The German “green energy transition” has hurt its industry, jobs and the environment. Why would anyone do this?

@karldeeter @rtenews @grok Also network charges to support the huge grid required for wind, wind constraint costs, incentives to battery operators (to support wind). Smart meter rollout to manage demand in support of wind. I would love to see a critical analysis of the true cost of wind.

Aontú supports renewable energy but we need transparent planning laws banning those with vested interests from deciding on our land & placing genuine value on the voices of local communities. China has now started installing 20MW offshore wind turbines. You just need 50 of those to match the capacity of an average 1GW nuclear plant. This might sound trivial but think for a minute how much easier it is to install a wind turbine than it is to build a nuclear plant. The latest nuclear reactor in the U.S., Vogtle Units 3 & 4, took 11 years to build. Whereas you can install a wind turbine in just two to three weeks (yes, really: researchgate.net/publication/32…) That's an insane differential: a couple of weeks vs. 11 years. With of course immense implications on costs: it's much cheaper to build, with a much safer risk profile. For one thing you start generating revenue in weeks instead of getting your capital tied up during more than a decade. As a reminder, Vogtle's cost overruns actually bankrupted Westinghouse - America's flagship nuclear company - in 2017 (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westingho…). No major energy company can possibly get bankrupt over a wind turbine project. This is why, again, it's positively insane to believe that green energy is "a scam": the numbers are right there. The only scam is convincing people otherwise, which ironically favors China: they power their factories with cheap, rapidly deployed energy while we get the culture war.

@thatbloodyMikey They are not rich. They are farmers, neighbours and regular people. They kill so few foxes it’s insignificant and they are a very important part of the rural economy. They also underpin our great equine industry.
