@clearSNR Why? There are plenty of empty lots, derelict malls, unused office buildings and parcels on busy main streets for building high rise apartments or 4-plexes. You don’t need to go into SF neighborhoods where you’re going to meet resistance.

This is one of the many reasons YIMBism struggles in LA. The disdain housing advocates have for single family neighborhoods, which people understandably cherish and want to preserve. People feel their homes and communities are under constant threat of being torn down to build high rise apartments. Focusing on ways to increase housing without making people feel their communities are under threat could go a long way to getting things done.

More than 70% of LA is zoned single-family only. Any LA politician who refuses to change that, like the incumbent I'm challenging, is not serious about solving the housing crisis and making LA more affordable.

Don't be obtuse. The two people killed by ICE were intervening in police activity and had a pattern of doing it. They guy had fought with ICE ten days earlier and the woman had been shadowing ICE all day and if I did to you what she did to the agent, you would scream attempted murder. I WANT ICE doing what they're doing. FINALLY, the government does something we want them to do.

The FBI sent an informant to pester Weaver to cut a shotgun barrel down so they could arrest him. Their goal was to get him to inform on a white supremacist group. Weaver did, eventually, cut the barrel down, but not to an illegal length. The Feds proceeded with the operation anyway, thinking Weaver had committed a crime when he hadn't. All this, just to force him to be a rat against some skinheads. Never, ever trust law enforcement, especially the FBI. They're fucking scum and would kill your family for another promotion.

Solvable homelessness and antisocial behavior issues should not deter us from building better transit infrastructure in the U.S.’s second largest city.

@CsizmaziaDalma @39_Matt Metro is mandated by Measures R and M to expand the system. These measures passed with supermajority votes in LA County. Delaying expansion will escalate cost overruns, because inflation and Baumol cost disease only get worse with time.

Meanwhile the chucklefucks on city council are apoplectic at the idea of building apartments near trains. @BobBlumenfield went on KPCC *today* and derided state-mandated upzoning from SB79 a “sledgehammer” to be managed, rather than our best way out of budget and housing crises.

The Los Angeles metro area has once again shrunk by more than any other large US metro, losing 62,454 people from 2024 to 2025. Since the 2020 Census, it’s down a total of 360,252 people. To compare: over the same 2020-2025 period, the NYC metro has grown by 29,048.

@39_Matt Something we agree on! I think it’s moreso that the density required to make development pencil out is mostly infeasible, given zoning constraints, permitting delays, etc, but yeah the regulatory environment in general is not conducive to the scale of housing development we need.
