Basketball has changed so much. In some ways, this shows more of a team sport and the development of complex plays. In other ways, this reveals how much slower, less aggressive, and less athletic the game was. Boomers and millennials are going to hate to hear this, but the reality is the 2026 OKC and Spurs would dominate both these teams.

After China's cancellation of Meta's purchase of Manus, why would any founder start an AI company in China if they had a choice? In China you have access to less compute, less capital, and salaries are lower than in the West. And if you are so successful that a non-Chinese firm tries to acquire you for billions of dollars, the Chinese government will lure you back to Beijing, ban you from leaving the country, and take your profits by canceling the acquisition. Manus did everything right. They even moved their entire business to Singapore to comply with U.S. outbound investment restrictions. Their only mistake was that they originally founded the company in China. It's not even clear what it means for China to force Meta to unwind the transaction. Is it going to force Manus's researchers to return to China and place exit bans on them too? Is it going to force Manus's founders and shareholders to pay back $2 billion to Meta? This is what happens when you regulate by fiat rather than rule of law. Ultimately, this is a much larger defeat for the Chinese AI ecosystem than for the United States. Meta will be fine without Manus. But Chinese nationals looking to found AI companies will increasingly just start them overseas. The message from the Chinese government here is that every AI company founded in China will forever remain subject to Chinese government regulatory pressure and manipulation, regardless of its legal status or location. Lastly, given the Chinese government clearly believes that the US and Chinese AI ecosystems should be completely separate, we should stop helping their ecosystem succeed! China's AI companies remain extremely reliant on US compute, AI models, and chipmaking tools. If we tighten the screws on China's access to US tech, the Chinese ecosystem will be even less attractive to founders, and more will just start companies overseas.

If the goal of basketball is to win, and you can only win at the highest level with great teammates, why do we value players who do “more with less” than those who do “more with more”? Sure, Derrick White, Alex Caruso or Draymond Green in a #1 option role wouldn’t lift a lesser cast to playoff wins…. but does it matter? When great on-ball creators get their team to the playoffs and lose in the first round, we default to “once they get a cast around them….” instead of “how would this skill set look like on a team that actually has a chance to win?” The ability to complement other talented players is almost always more important than the ability to lift less talented players. It isn’t about “stars vs role players”, it’s about which skills lead to NBA championships. And those who can complement, or even enhance the best players in the league without diminishing any of their own value will always be among the most valuable.

In the future, there will be three major powers in the world: China, USA, EU. Neutral countries will move as much as possible towards the EU as their preferred partner because both China and the USA treat other countries disrespectfully and try to extort them. Europe will be the only great power and market to turn to if you want to have an equal and fair relationship. Canada is already moving towards Europe for this exact reason. India and Japan will also form a closer relationship with Europe. This is what soft power means. MAGA replies in the comment section will prove the point.

Denver wins their 7th game in a row. Doesn’t quite feel like that highlighted by the well documented poor defense even in wins. A lot of incredible Jamal scoring nights, some really great Jokic moments. But Tim Hardaway left with an injury, PWat reinjured his hamstring (absolute disaster), and Spencer Jones also has a hamstring. Right when they got healthy. I have to point out that AG looked about 40% healthy in that game as well. Didn’t look good. Just still a lot of question marks.

This is & will always be a roster & system stat. in a system that is built around him. Of course it’s going to drop dramatically. It’s designed to operate around him when he’s on the floor & just survive when he’s not. Different than OKC or SAS, who have systems that operate with or without SGA or Wemby, just the systems elevate greatly when they’re on the floor. For Luka, LA system is not necessarily built around him, he just takes the ball & does his thing. When he’s off, they adjust accordingly (tho least successful of all teams here) Denver is built tailor made for Jokic & has no identity w/out him. Does not weaken or mitigate value, just contextualizes these stats that tell that story vs stats that say he’s more valuable than the other candidates.

No, I didn't leave it out. The Chinese and Soviet support was limited and mainly because of the 500,000-man invasionary force that LBJ sent against their client state. But so what? Had Vietnam gone red in 1962 no one would know the difference today---but 59,000 US soldiers would not have been killed and millions of vets would not have had lifetime wounds and traumas; upwards of a million Vietnamese civilians would not have been annihilated by US bombs, guns and napalm; and Vietnam would have ended up "red" for the next 64 years rather than the next 51 years as it actually happened. WTF did 13 years of extra military mayhem and slaughter in the cities and jungles of Vietnam do to enable any American to speak about this except with complete and everlasting shame!

Notice how they were eager to vote Harden as an MVP, but they always find a reason that Luka Doncic doesn’t deserve it?? I guess they don’t think they’re exactly alike!! Regardless, James Harden is as much like Luka Doncic, as Alperen Sengun is to Nikola Jokic. People are no longer buying what these retired, bitter, former players are selling anymore.
