@TheWeirdOne77 @GeorgeSears48 @Peter_Fox59 Here's a statue that Peter Norman asked to be modified so people today could stand with Tommie Smith and John Carlos, ie. Norman suggested that a statue that would also honour him be modified to remove him for the benefit of ongoing, contemporaneous recognition of human rights

Australian Peter Norman won 200m silver at the Mexico Olympics. At the medal ceremony he wore a human rights badge in solidarity with black American athletes still flighting for equality. He would have been so proud of Gout Gout in beating his own🥈time news.com.au/sport/sports-l…

So Gout Gout broke the World U20 record over 200m (subject to ratification obviously) and somehow the discourse has become about RACE (and heritage)? Read a comment that said “it sucks for the real Australian who won’t be recognized for his 19.88s run”. Are ppl okay???

@KA_1dn Murphy is going sub 10, too. And sub 45. He's just getting started (he's only 22 and already represented Australia at 3 senior world champs).

@kawhibernard @_LamNam_ @DailyLoud Not as fast as Lemaître yet. But he's only 22. Though he's already represented Australia at 3 senior World Championships (& a Junior World Champs). A huge talent in his own right (a potential Bolt, too).

@MetaWire @dom_lucre Murphy's mother was/is Sri Lankan (& a very good 100-400m sprinter for Australia; & iiuc, for Sri Lanka before moving to Aus). He's 22 (23 in June). Big story is he's only the 6th person without African ancestry to go under 20 seconds. He's been to 3 senior World Champs already.

@dom_lucre What’s the bigger story here? That Gout Gout ran 19.67 & is the new world record holder, or that a white boy- Aidan Murphy also beat Usain Bolt’s world record at 19.88.

🔥🚨STOLEN NEWS: The fastest man in the world Usain Bolt has just been surpassed by an 18-year-old sprinting prodigy named Gout Gout who has made history after clocking a 19.67 time in the 200m run, surpassing Usain Bolt’s 19.93s mark he set in 2004. I wasn’t at this race so I had to steal this footage from the Australian Athletics Championships social media page to present it to all of you.

@JTedBell @MedcalfByESPN Gout ran 19.84 a yr ago this wk with a +2.2 wind. He's been under 20.0 at least one other time. Murphy is only 22. He's taken it easy-ish for 2-3 yrs. He ran 20.41 when he was 18 (the then Aus U20 record). He's fired up after a good 400m @ last year's World Champs. His 3rd Snr.

@MedcalfByESPN Aidan Murphy went from 20.41 to 19.88. .53 seconds. He hadn’t been below 20.5 in three years. Gout went from 20.02 to 19.67. .35 seconds In the same race. Think about this. Really hard.

@hu_pow @glblathletichub Murphy is a former Australian U20 200m record holder. He represented Australia in the 200m in two senior World Championships by the time he was 20 and a half years of age. He's always had huge potential.

Also Aidan Murphy improvement is not that strange, but people will use it to fit the agenda. He’s been doing primarily 400’s for the last two years, the 200’s he’s ran this year have been into heavy headwinds. Plus, this is the peak of the Australian season.

@randyjo93598077 @ImantsRStrautin @bigg_wildcat The supposed accounts about Jesus in the writings of Josephus (& Tacitus & Pliny the Younger) are all well-argued to be later Christian forgery-interpolations, ie. in full, not partial as many claim.

@nbchef42 @iamAtheistGirl There's no evidence whatsoever NT Jesus was ever anything other than a literary figure, a storybook character, albeit in a lot of narratives, including narratives based on or about earlier narratives

Why would the gospel authors use women as witnesses to an alleged empty tomb in their stories, rather than men? (My hypothesis is that the idea of Jesus being placed in a tomb at all was a literary invention of “Mark.” Later gospels took the idea from Mark.)
Joel M. Curzon@JoelMCurzon

@hookskat I think that the reluctance to use women as characters in either Jewish or Greco-Roman literature has been overstated. They are often used as important characters. I can think of several good reasons for “Mark” to have used women to discover an empty tomb. (1) It was the . . 1/n

@JimLittle1 @JoelMCurzon I think Jesus could have easily predicted the Temple being destroyed. A modern example: Joseph Smith predicted in 1832 that a Civil War would happen in the United States and begin in South Carolina. He made a lucky guess based on current trends (Nullification Crisis).

@JimLittle1 @JoelMCurzon It really took off with God-fearing Gentiles. Eventually it developed into what we have today, in all it’s varieties. This is one way of looking at it 🤙 I think whatever happened, the early Church was more “charismatic” and loosely organized compared with later developments.
