it's day 22 of my automation journey and today i learnt new stuff in automation dunno if you've heard of it before,have you? ┉┈┈┈◈◉◈┈┈┈┉ RAG systems ┉┈┈┈◈◉◈┈┈┈┉ i remember back in college when one of my lecturers gave us an open-book test 😭 sounds easy right? problem was… the answers were inside the textbook, but finding the exact page under time pressure was pure suffering you’d just be flipping pages like your life depended on it funny enough… that’s almost how RAG systems work in AI today except ai doesn’t panic like students fighting for survival in exam hall let me break it down simply: normally, ai models like chatgpt forget everything after each conversation it’s basically artificial amnesia <3 so to make ai smarter, we give it memory: ✦ short-term memory → remembers recent conversations ✦ long-term memory → stores information in databases for later use now imagine a company has thousands of PDFs, documents, customer chats, policies, and records instead of forcing the ai to “memorize” everything… RAG helps it SEARCH for the exact information first before answering think of it like this: customer: “can i refund the shoes i bought last week?” the ai will: • check past chats • check customer purchase history • open the refund policy • find the exact relevant section • generate a response based only on that information so instead of hallucinating or guessing… it answers using the company’s real data that’s RAG: Retrieval-Augmented Generation basically: ai doing an open-book test… but actually finding the answers fast 😭 and honestly? this is one of the biggest things making ai systems useful in real businesses right now im looking forward to building a RAG workflow to solve problems in businesses, tomorrow
