@madbeatboy @RadioFreeTom @SuzyQEyes The answer is, yes. Thankfully, most European countries have coalition governments with institutional guardrails, compared to our norms and traditions. I assume you’re anti-authoritarian (as am I). Be careful not to defend Europe’s far right, in an effort to denounce America’s.

@LGConstable @RadioFreeTom @SuzyQEyes Are any of these “hard right” parties planning to destroy the governments of their countries? Eliminate nearly all social services and environmental regulations? Enact draconian restrictions on abortion, women’s rights, etc.? Would such things even be politically possible?

@madbeatboy @RadioFreeTom @SuzyQEyes Europe immune? North to south, east to west - there’s a web of totalitarian, authoritarian, dictatorial & fascist European leaders, demagogues & political influencers stretching from ancient Rome to the present. The historical European track record is far worse than the US.

Fox has obtained a fact sheet assembled by the majority side of House Appropriations Committee about disaster aid.  It says that FEMA “has enough funding in the short-term to address immediate needs for both Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton.” It also declares there is “no funding connection between” the migrant shelter program and the Disaster Relief Fund. It adds there is “no intermingling of funding between these two programs.” It adds that “the only connection is that both programs are administered by FEMA.”

@MrFamilyOffice Every FO is different, so no clear answer to this. But it’s one area where we see large variability and differing approaches to FO management.

@MrFamilyOffice Telling how next-gen focus represents the least amount of time. Most FOs are built to be multi-gen. Does this show that the top gen isn’t focused on next-gen leadership, or that next-gen involvement is so baked into structure that it doesn’t need a specific time allocation?

At some point, people need to stop comparing big VC to small VC. In PE, no one compares the risk/return of lower-middle market PE to large cap. Across the spectrum, it's alpha seeking to beta seeking. You can't get alpha w/o taking more risk.

@OfficialBBrooks Also, an interesting data point from the founder side: angels are shifting away from funding pre-rev development and focusing more on revenue traction before investing. I.e., the pool for pre-seed development capacity may be shrinking even more.

@OfficialBBrooks Getting over the track record hurdle for seed-stage emerging managers is a bear. Esp investing in B2B and enterprise tools (companies with longer dev time and sales cycles).

Long VC post but maybe worth the time. Of all the LPs I’ve spoken with recently here’s some observations💭 Institutional are scared to make changes, sticking with established funds that have large AUMs & consider them risk averse. HNWI (high networth individuals) are interested in emerging fund managers but finding difficulty w/ track record if any. Family Offices are the mystery. I’m seeing more hiring for managers to invest directly into funds & into startups. My suspicion is they’ll play a larger role in LP funding in the near future.

@galeforceVC Yes - 100%! Especially at the early stages, a good active investor should be there to help, strategically, without getting in the way. That means both knowing what you know and what you don’t know.

Nurturing your portfolio companies is as important as selecting them. Providing ongoing support can significantly enhance their chances of success. An active investor role doesn’t end at writing a check. It’s about being a partner in growth, offering guidance, resources, and strategic input.
