I’ve spoken with the incredibly brave man who stepped into last night’s horrific situation in Belfast without any thought for his own safety. What a remarkable act of courage. Please can the rumours that the man who was attacked has passed away stop. It has been confirmed that he is alive, although he remains in a critical condition. Maitiu told me: “I just done what any other man should do in the situation of a person losing their life.” His actions undoubtedly made a difference, and he deserves immense respect. Many people are angry and upset about what happened, but it’s important that accurate information is shared and that we continue to support those affected. I continued to ask him how he was feeling today about last night to which he replied, “Personally, I don’t think the trauma of what I witnessed has fully hit me yet”. The murderer of Henry Nowak has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 20 years and 190 days. The minimum term was increased by the judge to 23 years however, was reduced to 21 years due to mitigating factors including the murderers age and previous good record. I do not believe in “good record or age” as a factor to reduce a sentence. A man was murdered. The murderer shouldn’t see another free day in his life. I will never say the murderers name.
